General Kevin P. Byrnes was dismissed today, apparently related to sexual misconduct about which the DoD is keeping mum.

What I found interesting was this:
It is rare for four-star officers to be relieved of command. Adm. Richard C. Macke was dismissed as head of the Pacific Command in 1995 for remarks he made about the case of several marines accused of raping a 12-year-old Japanese girl. Gen. Michael Dugan was relieved as chief of staff of the Air Force in 1990 for comments to reporters about planning for the 1991 Persian Gulf war.
Does anyone remember what Dugan said to reporters in 1990?

He is being investigated on ‘personal matters’. Usually that means dishonorable conduct.

Here’s a bit more detail on that.
WASHINGTON, Aug. 10 - A four-star general who was relieved of command this week said Wednesday through his lawyer that the Army took the action after an investigation into accusations that he was involved in a consensual relationship with a female civilian.

The lawyer, Lt. Col. David H. Robertson, said the case “involves an adult relationship with a woman who is not in the military, nor is a civilian employee of the military or the federal government.”
I’m still curious whether anyone remembers what Dugan said to reporters in 1990 that got him canned.
