Fox news has most trusted coverage, or not, quinnipiac university national poll finds

FOX News offers the most trusted network and cable news coverage, 29 percent of American
voters say, when asked to compare the major TV news outlets in a Quinnipiac University
National poll released today. But when network news is examined on a case-by-case basis, FOX drops in the ratings.

In the comparison rankings, CNN gets 22 percent, with NBC News and CBS News at 10
percent each, 8 percent for ABC News and 7 percent for MSNBC, the independent Quinnipiac

(KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University Poll finds.
When asked, “Do you trust the journalistic coverage provided by FOX News,” 20 percent
of U.S. voters say “a great deal” and 35 percent say “somewhat.” Scores for other networks are:

 NBC News – 14 percent “a great deal” and 46 percent “somewhat;”
 ABC News – 14 percent “a great deal” and 50 percent “somewhat;”
 CBS News – 14 percent “a great deal” and 50 percent “somewhat;”
 MSNBC – 11 percent “a great deal” and 41 percent “somewhat;”
 CNN – 18 percent “a great deal” and 43 percent “somewhat.”

The big winner is local television news, trusted by 19 percent of voters “a great deal” and
by 52 percent “somewhat.”

Seriously?

I used to watch Fox News for a few years until some folks pointed out to me that it was not trustworthy. Took me just a short while to figure out they were right.

The age of Walter Cronkite when the news outlets could pretend to be objective is long over. Fox News is just as biased as the others. The only difference is.

A. It’s relatively conservative
B. It’s by far the most popular.

Also, the news has NEVER been truly objective. One could argue to be unbiased is impossible, since one always has to make a judgement call as to what news was more important than the other.
 
Leaving bias out of the equation, Fox News has consistently been the least accurate (factually) of the major networks and their viewers the most ill-informed, as proved by numerous studies.

No, they didn’t suggest where else to go, that was up to me. And don’t worry, I still read the Wall Street Journal, yet usually skipping the miserable editorial page towards the end.
 
Every network is biased.

Better to watch both Fox and [insert liberal network here] than to only watch one biased side and think you’re getting the whole picture.

I watch Fox News the most. I would call it slanted to American conservative right, but reliable in reporting the facts. You just have to sort through the agenda lens. As I’ve stated elsewhere, mix your news sources. The BBC online is a good balance to Fox. It is neutral to left leaning. I also use the Daily Telegraph online, again, neutral to Tory (very different conservative spin from Fox).

I find American news very claustrophobic and Fox does play into this. You can watch 20 minutes on Harrison Ford’s plane crash. I DON’T care about that. I don’t consider it hard news. To me BBC World News is a good example of a “real” news show. Fox just does the US right wing spin on selected world events it wants to spin on. MSNBC does not bear mentioning. CNN used to be ok, but for several years now is really slanted to the left, annoyingly so. MSNBC light. I think newscasters are afraid to do real news in the US because it will get such low ratings. It’s a money thing in the end.
 
How about America Al Jazeera?

I only have on-line access and seldom check it out.

All you have to do is watch news from around the world to know that each network here in the states gets the ultimate say on what story gets broadcasted. There are things going on that we don’t or never hear about in the world. That’s enough for me to know there is no such thing as an ‘unbiased’ news station. And if its biased, its not really worthy of one’s complete trust. They decide what is important for you to hear about.

After the leaked email about their banned word list, they are low on my list. Especially this part: “TERRORISM/TERRORISTS – One person’s terrorist is another’s freedom fighter. We will not use these terms unless attributed to a source/person.” That’s insane. Beheading aid workers is terrorism. Systematically raping women of the towns you take is terrorism. Assassinating people just for making fun of your beliefs is terrorism. It’s not even close to “freedom fighting”.
 
I like BBC/NPR balanced out with RTNews, AlJazeera, and a few others.

Also with the death of the newspaper, online newspapers are forced to rely more and more on sponsors to survive - this affects their choice of news stories and approach to coverage.

I’m not sure how you mean that to apply to the present discussion. There are more news services than ever before, first due to cable, and now online outlets. Prior to Fox, there was no conservative voice in the television market. So yes, the introduction of more options has been a good thing.
 
FOX News continues to have the highest ratings and largest audience share than all other cable news networks.

“You can fool some of the people all of the time or you can fool all of the people some of the time…but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.”

Ratings count!

If the majority of people thought FOX was untrustworthy, biased or dishonest…CNN and MSNBC would be up there in lights.

NPR has a definite liberal agenda. Not a day goes by they don’t push evolution, gay rights, or climate change. At least Bill O’Reilly (I know he’s a commentator), has opposing points of view on his show.
