term ‘homicide’ bombers sted ‘suicide’ bombers. Rummy and gang said that’s what they should be called and FNC played along. That’s not independent news… that’s quasi-state-controlled news.
And you have a problem with this fact how? It’s like pointing out a person is black or white just because it’s a simple observation. A suicide bomber is just that, but the bomber not only killed himself but killed others around him/her. Last I checked, that’s homicide. Just because Rumsfeld said it, the liberals want to try to rewrite the dictionary. 😃

You’re information is false. I’ve watched Bill O’Reilly for the last several years. I’ve seen him cut the microphone twice. Both cases had nothing to do with whether he agreed or disagreed with his guest, but that the guest would not let either Bill or the other guest speak.
Obviously I have watched The O’Reilly Factor more times than you, then 🙂 Between 2001 and 2003 I watched his show quite often (maybe 3 nights out of 5). I saw him cut mikes more often than twice. It must have been at the very least 5 times, and the majority of those were one-on-one interviews.
Lastly, getting your information from places like Moveon.org and the Guardian, is like me getting my information from Rush Limbaugh. It is to be taken with a large grain of salt.
I don’t think I’ve ever taken any information from moveon.org, I was put off the first time I looked at it by their terribly-designed website. As for the Guardian, the instances related in that article were actual things that were said on Fox News about the London bombings. Ignore any spin you might think is there, the fact remains that they said those things.

I think you’re confusing tax evasion with tax dodging. We all tax dodge when we itemize on our taxes, claim charitable contributions, deduct IRA or 401(k) contributions from our taxes. This is all legal and OK. Tax evasion is not.
Personally I think the activities on News International are closer to evasion than dodging, though I’ll agree that it is nominally legal. Morality is something else 🙂
I think Fox News tilts slightly to the right. The BBC’s bias was essentially admitted when the head had to resign after falsely claiming that the British Government had falsified evidence to justify their invasion of Iraq.
It was one report broadcast at 6am on the radio. The mistake the director-general made was to stick loyally by his journalist’s report (without actually looking into what was said).

Either way, the anti-war movement wasn’t half as polarised in the UK as in the US. For example, the guy now going for leadership of the Conservative party, Ken Clarke, always opposed the war (see other threads in the News forum).
But the point is, the need for taxpayer-funded news has long since past. Especially news that does not give all sides of the issue all the time.
Of course, you always pay for your news channels, whether through your cable subscription or through watching the adverts on the standard channels.

The argument against state-funded news is surely that it may allow the government to have an improper influence on the news. But the very arugument you used above shows the BBC doesn’t do that.

To be fair to moveon.org, I just took another look and the website seems much better now than my recollection of it. It’s still far too sluggish for me to even consider it as a regular read though, whatever the politics. I’ll stick to the BBC etc. and forming my own opinions 🙂

A side note- I cannot believe how many people here are completely incapable of holding a discussion without resorting to liberal bashing. Is it really that hard to stick to the topic at hand? Sheesh.
Liberal bashing? I see both sides going. There’s alot of conservative bashing by the liberals. You can’t have a discussion on a topic like this without having it get a little inflamed only because you’re dealing with peoples’ belief systems. For example… I tune in with energy when someone starts to talk about the military… it turns into negative energy when the person is bashing the military… it turns to calm energy when someone supports the military. Why? Because I’m affiliated with the military.

I actually find this discussion humorous. I think I find it actually more scary than anything to now KNOW that there are people who want to bash FOX news because they are conservative. Thank GOD I have a news outlet to watch that isn’t trying to shove down my throat that abortion is a womans’ right to decide if she’ll have a baby or not (she should have thought of that before engaging in the act). What’s wrong with a news agency that laughs at the liberals who try to push the abortion agenda and does it on national TV? Those people need to be laughed at.

hope I didn’t stir the pot! 🙂

O’Reilly has cut the microphone on his guests eleven times. He has threatened to many other times.

It doesn’t matter where you get your information if you ignore facts that don’t support your agenda.

O’Reilly has been on for about seven or eight years. He’s on every weekday. While I’ve only seen it twice, I don’t dispute that it happened more frequently before I started watching. But eleven times in 1000-2000 episodes is pretty good. The point here is that he doesn’t cut off the microphone when someone disagrees with him. He has someone that disagrees with him on everyday.

I couldn’t agree more. But I also accept that two people can see all the evidence presented and still come to two different conclusions without either of them being deluded or ignorant.

And if you don’t ignore facts, it does matter where you get your news from. Some media outlets exclude important information from their stories.

I dont trust Fox News. They do lean toward the Right. I get my news by listening to different networks with all kinds of points of views. I even listen to news that has more of an Intenational/World view to get a bigger scope of what goes on.

My family is thankful to God for Fox News. We truly believe it is fair and balanced.

I agree with another poster that it is slightly right but it still balances out when you compare it to CNN.

One thing I don’t like about FOX is their website. They need a major overhaul. Too many ads in wierd places.

That being said, I’m a huge FOX junkie. I love it. Thats all I watch at home. I LOVE Shepard Smith and Sean Hannity. I’ve considered naming my next child Hannity. 🙂 I don’t like Bill O’Reilly. He’s so obnoxious and he won’t let anybody talk. He cuts them off and is just rude. I can’t stand him or Geraldo. Geraldo gets so excited about everything and throws it all out of proportion. He over-reacts to everything. I can’t stand his Hurricane Rita coverage. It makes me want to puke.

I don’t mind Greta too much except that her mouth is crooked and her eyes always look scared.

Shepard’s hot. 🙂

I suspect the strange appearence is partially caused by the plastic surgery she had just before joining Fox News.

Fox News definitely swings to the right, but it’s a diamond in the rough amongst a sea of left-wing media outlets.

I think that FOX is a bit to the right, but what is the problem with that? There is nothing wrong with having channels that are a little biased in one direction or another. We, the viewers, have more information to make our choices.
That makes good sense to me. The only fault I find is the jerk who went into Al Capone’s safe years ago, gave away military information in Afghanistan and to me is just plain stupid. I mean of course the GREAT Geraldo Riviera. If he comes on I switch to MSNBC. CNN does not exist in our home.O’Reilly is my favorite and I also like Hume & Snow. Everything considered Fox is our news station for other than local news.

She is? Are you sure?
google her name and scientology see what comes up…also, on her show she says she likes their ethics? I don’t know how sure one can be…I think she is a good attorney…and I still tune in to her show on occasion.

i voted republican but thats ok with me because im a conservative republican . 👍

I voted Republican too.
I am a conservative Republican when it comes to Traditional values, but a somewhat more liberal Republican when it comes to government programs for the poor and needy. I think we should keep and strengthen those programs.
