This is a deeply troubled man. Watch his eyes, they go to the left, to the right, down and up with only fleeting glances straight ahead. Wow, I never thought this could happen. I will pray for him is all I can say right now.
I agree. There are 2 videos on YouTube with Fr. Mitch Pacwa and Dog. In one, Fr John Corapi, with grey beard, is quite straight forward. In the second, with the black bearded incipient Dog, he diverts his eyes constantly to the right or down, Fr. Pacwa is to his left. In the latter he mentions his autobiography, a subject of which he is quite fond, a couple of times. In the second, one supposses he feels ashamed in the presence of an undefiant priest.

I never followed Corapi as I don’t like his style of delivery, but I was always fascinated about this priest living in Montana while his order’s HQ was in TX. Just seemed odd.

Anyone see this video? Interesting take on the media’s response.

That one was posted a while back I believe. Though to be fair, I know that it is really tough to keep up with such a big thread. 🙂

The other thing I would point out is that the video you posted came out well before SOLT detailed their reasoning for removing Father Corapi from active ministry and also before his video response.

Cheers!

I envy those who have not struggled and have not failed.
Who exactly are they?

Apart from Jesus of course, and Mary conceived without sin. St. Joseph as part of the Holy Family? And I thought I read somewhere that St. Thomas Aquinas never lost his baptismal innocence?

Then again, wait. Maybe I’m reading this wrong and need to correct what I’ve posted above. You say “those who have not struggled” … okay, so it looks like we shorten the above list, right? Who hasn’t struggled?

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

There are saints, and there are strugglers…the saints are in heaven.

God bless you,

Powerful stuff. I sometimes think the devil goes especially hard to corrupt those in the public spotlight who are identified with teaching the faith. He’ll find whatever weaknesses he can exploit and tempt the person with everything he can, knowing that such a scandal will not only hurt the corrupted, but will frustrate those who have been looking to him for inspiration and hope.
I agree with this entirely. Whatever may have been going on at the time, or what happened after…nothing can change the good that Corapi has done in my own life. God used him for immense good, and I believe temptation got to him.

The only pain I feel in this is the familiarity to a situation in my own life. Granted, the situation we faced was way worse, but his actions are spot-on-IDENTICAL to the actions of the person who, when tempted and gave in, caused so much hurt to our community. It just kind of brings back that pain and frustration.

His current actions to not negate what he has done well.

Thank you, Brother, for the reminder that none of us has reached perfection, yet. We all have a distance to go, fraught with temptations the whole way. Judging others, without knowing the inner struggles that they are experiencing, is unfair. We need to pray for all sinners, as Jesus has requested. That’s what the Divine Mercy devotion is all about.

Make a difference. Fast for Father Corapi: facebook.com/event.php?eid=149615051779641
You know what? A whole convent of contemplative Sisters have been praying day in day out for John Corapi for years, and most likely many hundreds of people in addition to the Nuns, and what we’re witnessing happens. God’s grace is abundant and ready to be poured into John Corapi’s life. Thing is freewill is not but a lofty concept, it has very concrete applications in real life (i.e.people can resist God’s promptings to the bitter end, even to the point of eternal separation from him). If the whole global Catholic community knew of Corapi’s situation and fervently prayed, would God’s promptings/graces be more than what they are right now?.Mind you, no sacrifice, prayer, or fast are ever wasted (IMO) and God can use them for the person’s own sanctification/someone else beside John Corapi. At some point, we have to respect John Corapi’s freedom/free-will even if it grieves us. I think he has had plenty of time to consider leaving the priesthood and although the accusations he couldn’t foresee coming, he has been preparing his departure for some time and thought this through. It’s reasonable to think he was waiting for the right moment to move into a “new era”, and this crisis, although unexpected, provided an opportunity to do so. Again, great intentions, God bless you, but I feel we’re beating a dead horse.

When I saw this video, the first thing I thought was, “Gee… his beard is awfully dark, I thought it was completely gray last time I saw him. Why does this seem so awfully familiar?”

Then I chuckled a bit because I remembered. Osama bin Laden used to die his hair and beard prior to releasing his videos as well.

Don’t read into. I’m just making an observation.

Praying and fasting for someone is never “beating a dead horse.” Christ told us to be like the woman at the door who never stopped knocking until the master of the house got up and answered. Let’s persevere in prayer, no matter how bleak the situation looks!

Well, here you go folks.

I searched the Flathead County, MT property records, and have all of the values for Corapi’s property:

His total real estate holdings are $ 1,074,578 - this includes the $30,000 boat dock.

I am sure that SOLT gathered the same public information in their investigation.

This is one piece of verifiable truth in this whole mess.

Wow.

No kidding!

I was actually very surprised that the property was in his own name.

It was my first search, and I had expected that it would be under Santa Cruz, Inc., or some other name.

For this information alone, I believe that he seriously lost his way, and became enamored with his own fortune and fame.

It is a shame that he could not have shown the humility of Mother Teresa.

The one thing to learn here is that all of us, no matter how religious we are, can be subject to the power of Satan.

I think this is a fair assessment. SOLT most likely found evidence that is of public record as well - to help coraborate the allegations.

Thank you!

I guess that my link still requires another search.

If you click on I Agree, then enter his last name on the next page, you should see the same summary that I did.

I saved a screenshot of my search results before I exited the site.

I am not passing judgement here, just stating the facts that I unearthed.

No animosity either, as I was just curious about the facts.

The internet and public records can be a powerful tool.

The astonishing thing to me is that none of this has been hidden or particularly difficult to uncover for the history of his ministry. He did occasionally attempt to portray himself as living more simply and in line with the popular notion of a religious–by claiming to live on $30,000 a year and give the rest to charity, by referring to the homes he owned in secluded areas as hermitages–but to a great extent he has been quite open about the fact that his is an extremely profitable business, not a nonprofit apostolate, and that he enjoys being able to participate in the style of living he aspired to as a young man–owning property, driving enviable vehicles, participating in expensive pastimes such as boating, sportfishing, hunting, etc. I think this endeared him to a certain segment of his audience as evidence of his “masculinity” and bespeaks a certain devotion to the “Gospel of prosperity” that aligns well with his libertarian and Tea Party followers. This segment of his audience has been growing in recent years, perhaps because he has cultivated it, and has in many ways replaced the original audience of devout Catholic mothers and grandmothers who felt comfortable with him as another Fr Groeschel or Padre Pio.

It would not be unexpected for a man whose early talents lay in buying and selling real estate to carry those talents over into a second career. It’s just that the particular second career makes those talents incongruous, if not inappropriate. That he was not called on it earlier, especially when, as it seems clear, the S.O.L.T. was not the principal beneficiary of whatever charitable donations he may have made (the only public records available on which to judge are Federal records for the small political contributions he made to Republican candidates), begs the question of what sway he held with his superiors.
