I don’t actually use the word infalliable very often…

Anyway, in terms of faith and morals, the Church will not lead the faithul astray. In these matters only, the word is infallible.

Meaning, the Pope may make incorrect statement regarding politics, war strategy, baseball predictions, etc.

He will not err in issues of faith and morals. The is not in dispute.

The catholic church has admited hundreds of mistakes in the past! Ever hear of something called the Crusades?

Are you justifying the killing of Islamics and the burning of witches now?

How far do you want to go using that word Infalliable?
I am talking about teaching on faith and morals. I am not saying leaders in the Church can’t make mistakes. I am talking about what the Church teaches. The Catechism!!! Nothing in the catechism can be or will be changed. For example, the Church will never say we were wrong on the teaching of going to Confession. You really don’t have to do that anymore. Just confess straight to God. Or so on…

He Man;2916826:
RCIA, so don’t assume everything you hear is gospel. Read the Catechism; that is the source of Catholic truth.

QUOTE]

I would suggest you take your own advice there as well.

Hypocrite is the new word for the day I see.
PLEASE don’t jump all over HeMan…He is positively no “hypocrite”…He’s simply stating the absolute truth: that the reading of the Catechism of the Catholic Church will give you the AUTHENTIC answers you seek. …And yes, there are ALL kinds of RCIA leaders, and many of them have gotten on the bandwagon of false tolerance and outright doctrinal error, sad to say.
I respectfully suggest that you read and read and read. God bless you! 🙂

One thing that I am noting here is the widow. She knows he’s a priest, so why is she taking part in this?

Oh, I am sorry, I am judging again. Never mind John 7:24. Anything goes these days in the Catholic Church, so sure, why not.

Well, all we know is that he fell in love with her. Doesn’t mean she encouraged it or anything - for all we know she may want no part of it!

Does anybody know what happens now?😦
Fr. Mark is solid, as is Fr. Anthony (he is in charge of theological education of new Friars in fact), but not very charismatic, hence why Fr Francis Mary took the lead on the show.

I honestly don’t know, but is very saddening. Perhaps a lay person, like Cavins (I believe) used to do?

I am glad to be a new member, just so VERY sad that I came to it to find out what had happened with Fr. Francis, as I missed the first few minutes of the show tonight!!! Having said that, in fact, I hope that this thread goes back to this original discussion tonight, and that more members will share their thoughts (and remember to pray for him.) ~

I imagine they will not speak of it anymore on Life on the Rock as not to speculate about his absence . I think they will leave the issue be for now and give Fr. Francis the time he needs. If he does decide to stay in the Priesthood it will be a great witness and this may turn into a great blessing and a great example to keep their faith in hard times and persevere and to show people that are discerning the Priesthood now that it can be done and it is possible to stay the course. I have always thought how hard it must be to be celibate and be in the Priesthood. I am sure it can get lonely very often.

hi!
could somone tell me exactly what happened tonight on life on the rock?
i missed the very start just before the opening credits and i thought Fr. Francis had been in an accident or something. Obviously now i know but could someone tell me exactly what Fr. Anthony said before the opening credits please.

We don’t know he fell in love with her. The letter said he has become involved with her. It did not say he is in love. Love is a choice. He may have feeling for her right now but he may have not made the choice to love her and to pursue a relationship in that way. I think we are speculating about him being in love with her, love was never mentioned in his letter.

I heard him speak about a year and a half ago about vocations. He said at the time that he felt no loss at not being married. Talk about famous last words. This must have come up relatively suddenly. So sad.

All we know is Fr. Francis Mary was counseling a widow, claims to be involved with her, and is now discerning his vocation as a Priest.

Remember, it will be rebroadcast at 1AM tonight…and again tomorrow early afternoon. .(Didn’t want to stay up this late, but will have trouble sleeping tonight after this great sad shock anyway, I suspect!!)

This is very sad especially for all of us that really like him, but there are some that look up to him and really don’t understand the vocation of priesthood. People tend to jump all over the place with this one and assume the church is teaching something wrong.
I am in no way judging Fr. Francis he has been awesome, especially with the youth and my prayers will be with him. I can understand though that discerning the vocation of the religious life and the married life are tough, but at times we may feel things that later we regret. Feelings come and go all the time. I just hope that he makes the best choice.
And for the sake of this thread please stop bickering and let us focus on what started this thread in the first place.

So how did Fr. Anthony announce this? Did he just read out a letter or something? Both Fr. Mark and Fr. Anthony looked very shaken and upset. I was trying to find the realvideo of this episode in the archieve section of the EWTN web site but either its just not up yet or maybe they dont want to put it up, at least the part concerning Fr Francis anyway.

Its a big shock. None of us saw this coming!

False tolerance? Again I have to go back to what Jesus said here. Love one another.

Loving one another means to be tolerent and understanding of each other. To foregive them no matter what and to pray for them.
Even while dying on the cross Jesus said “Forgive them for they know not what they do”.

If you people in this thread claim to be yor typical Catholic and I’m quiting my RCIA training and going else where.

I’ve heard Fr. Francis himself say Hate the sin and love the sinner.

Most of what I see here in this post are a bunch of untolerant, self rightous, Cathechism book thumpers.

In fact you guys have are pretty much convince me to jump ship and go over to the Lutherans. Your way of thinking here in these post is exactly why I see people leaving the church in drones. Your way of thinking is exactly why thousand of innocent people were killed in the crusades and burned at the stake.

Maybe Martian Luther was right after all.

The bottomline for me here is this.

I forgive Fr Francis for whatever he may have done wrong. That forgiveness would even include MURDER for that is what God and Jesus both of taugh me by example in the bible. That forgivenss would include him putting down his collar. I stand fast when I say maybe God has another propuse for Fr Franics (see this link and the answer from Byzcath)

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?p=2916875#post2916875

See my other post for more examples.

I have learned alot from EWTN and from watching Fr. Francis. He was and still is one of the reasons why I decided to go back to church and get confirmed. I feel sorry for the man and I will pray for him.

You guys can condem Fr. Francis and ridicule him all you like. I will not.

But if you people here are your typical Catholic than I’m going elsewhere to find the REAL teachings of Christ. I know damm well Jesus would never ever agree with what many of you stated above.

😦

In the letter Fr. Anthony read, Fr. Francis did not say he had fallen in love with the widow he was helping. Please, let’s not speculate on hearsay. He deserves that much consideration.

Mary, mother of priests, pray for Fr. Francis.

I know, which is why I typed “involved with” in my post, which you quoted 🙂
