It makes sense to me. It explains the sorrows and suffering in this life…If we aren’t able to cleanse ourselves completely in this life it continues after death in purgatory

Have you ever heard this before?. I have often thought purgatory was something that happens during our lifetime as well as the next phase of life
purgatory removes the just punishment for sin that remains when this earthly life ends, which implies that at least some of the punishment can be remitted during our lifetimes, and the ancient penitential practices of the Church suggest this has always been the belief.

…Purgatory removes the “stain” from our souls for sins forgiven.
After all, to be in Heaven, with God the Father, we must be stainless, as He cannot be in the presence of sin. Besides, after we see ourselves through God’s Eyes, we would be ashamed to be in the presence of “Our Groom” in such a stained garment!

Indulgences can be partial or plenary.

Purgatory is actually a Great Grace from God. If it weren’t for Purgatory, if we had not made “reparation” for sins forgiven (repaired the damage we had done)…nobody-or almost nobody would be in Heaven. St. Padre Pio said all souls must at least pass through the purifying flame:

My favorite “proof” of Purgatory:
Matthew 5:25-26:
25
Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court with him. Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge, and the judge will hand you over to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison.
26
Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.

God Bless.

Purifier of Silver/Purgatory

Malachi 3:3 says: “He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.”

This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God. One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.

That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn’t mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver.

As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot (Purgatory) then she thought again about the verse that says: “He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver.”

She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, “How do you know when the silver is fully refined?”

He smiled at her and answered, “Oh, that’s easy-when I see my image in it.”
