Obedience ? If I understand it right suspending Fr. Corapi was illicit, how can one be obedient to that ? It is about time that we send messages to our bishops that their actions that are incompatible with the Church’s teachings are no longer tolerated.

I want my Church back.

Yes, I understand it this way as well. To suspend him in the first place was against canon law. The way I understand his reaction and what he has said himself is that yes, he understands they were not correct in doing what they did, but no he will not disobey and preach publically as a Priest. Now, I supose he could go along with the whole thing and just “sit down and shut up” as told to do. I supose that is what a lot of people want him to do. I do believe there are certain people within and outside of the Church that want him silenced, but whether of not Fr. believes that is the right course of action is between him and God.

]I think we should all read Posting # 562 as it is very clarifying.
To be honest I wouldn’t say it’s clarifying. I saw it only as another possible perspective and speculative.

We just dont have much.

Even though I wasn’t a “fan” of Fr. Corapi, I did enjoy listening to him on the radio and was very upset and angry at his decision to leave his order and priestly minsitry. (Why take vows if they don’t mean anything?)

But I’ve decided we have to think the best about everyone involved.

I am willing to assume the best about Fr. Corapi, and I am firmly commited to thinking the best about the Bishop of Corpus Christi. (It greatly distresses me when Catholics attack them.) I am also willing to think the best about SOLT.

I’m also willing to think the best about his accuser.

Ultimately, I think we’re just going to have to sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.
Very sound advice. Thank you! 🙂

Father is simply agreeing to refrain from public ministry.

Re: trademarking “The Black Sheepdog”, that’s the title of his autobiography which he has been working on for the past few years so trademarking this at that time is understandable.

*For me Post #562 has served to calm me down and take the decision to wait and see how things unfold.

I have now become more optimistic.

Let us pray:highprayer::gopray2: *

Go to the blog and read the whole comment. What I posted was less than half, as it is over 12,000 characters.
I don’t know who this ‘Dog Mugwump’ is, but he seems to have knowledge that few would possess (just my opinion, based on nothing).

Before I go and read his whole comment does “Dog Mugwump” claim any sources to inside and behind the scenes factual information or is he some expert on canon law etc? Or is he just opining and giving a different petspective?

Plenty of people have strong feelings on this, have different perspective, different opinions which is all very natural and understandable.

But that is different from factual knowledge. I prefer to keep the two clearly defined in my mind or things get fuzzy, for me anyway. 🙂

Mr. Voris,
How much money do you make by attacking our Bishops?
People have the right to defend Holy Mother Church.
You have the freedom to attack her. Please do not worry about our Bishops bringing down our Church from within.
I take offense at this. Those people are not defening the Church. Fr. Corapi has never attacked the Church.

Second of all, they are viciously attacking, libeling, and calumuniating Corapi simply because they can. It is vicious and unjust.

Third of all, Voris is defending the Faith against bishops who are undermining it and the faithful people within it.

It’s helpful when you actually listen to what is being said, but, these days, that is probably asking too much.

I would like to echo my appreciation of JM3 for posting in post 562 the excerpt from the blog – all of it, but I want to re-state this part:
He would have waited for the canonical process to conclude if he thought it would produce the truth in a reasonble manner. He is cooperating fully with being on administrative leave from public priestly ministry.
That is precisely what he himself said in his first public message, as I recall. And again, anyone who has figured him out (listened closely to his talks over the years) would understand how logically-Fr.-Corapi this is. My perception aligns with that of that blog contributor. All of it, including the part about the money, which I also discussed in my own earlier post yesterday.

I went and read “Dog Mugwump’s” post.

It still didn’t add any real factual clarity to the situation. He did articulate well his opinion and perspective and why he holds such. Which is fine, IMO.

But I don’t find any factual clarity. Just a well articulate opinion. 🙂

You could try that yourself. Read Fr. Corapi’s own words on his website.

Fr. Corapi has attacked the Church. He has attacked seminaries and Bishops in his talks. He has been careful not to name names.

In his Theblacksheepdog.us “unleashed” post, he attacked the church
For about ten years I have been attacked, threatened, and endured extortion attempts. The leadership of the Church never lifted a finger to help me in any way with this. Every time someone gets angry with me or decides they want a payday I have to go through hell with no help from the leadership of the Church.
You are attacking the messengers. Fr. Corapi’s very words publicly posted on his website are cause for grave concern.

From his own words:
Formerly called Father, now called the Blacksheepdog.
What the heck does that mean???
The leadership of the Church has made it clear to me they don’t want me anymore. They have a right to do that and I have to accept that. So, I’ll do what I can outside of the Church.
NOT TRUE, SOLT asked him to come and live in their community. Why has he declined???

I used to be a great fan of Fr. Corapi’s. I have every CD he ever put out. I paid $35.00 to see him in St. Louis last May. I admit I was really SHOCKED at his appearance. He wore a beautiful custom tailored black suit. His beard was dyed dark brown. He was tan and his head appeared waxed. I was expecting the Fr. Corapi I had known, gray beard, gray priest’s suit. He seemed to be a different person. His talk was peppered with conservative political comments.

I’m the last person who would condemn him, but his appearance was very troubling to me. I wasn’t going to let that get in the way of my admiration for him. But with the latest untruths coming out of his mouth (being a GB, etc.), I feel he is a different person. I still like and listen to his CD’s, but I won’t be seeking any new material by him.

Whether or not it is against canon law is not for him or for us to say-that’s for the canon lawyers of the hierarchy. He had two options-to contest that through the proper channels and set an example for other Catholics how to behave in such a situation, or to go outside those channels and fight with the hierarchy. He chose to fight with the hierarchy and to indict the bishops as a whole and the seminaries as a whole. That was wrong, and not the proper way for any Catholic, let alone a priest, to behave.

Do we know whether he attempted option 1? I would assume that it would take a fair amount of time but I haven’t heard anything about not attempting to protest (specifically the suspension during the investigation) through “proper channels”

Also how did he fault the bishops as a whole? What is the connection with seminaries?

Personally, I think plenty of Catholics are viciously attacking, libeling, and caluminating bisohps simply because they can. It is vicious and unjust.

I’m not saying you are doing this, but it seems as though everywhere I turn, it’s open season on bishops.

Why is it wrong to attack Corapi for his actions but it’s perfectly fine to attack bishops, and to criticize Catholics who stand with them? I’ve seen this for a long time, from both conservative and liberal Catholics, and it caused a major crisis of faith for me. I almost left the Church because of that. It’s not just here, it’s everywhere; this constant stream of negativity about how the bishops are all cowardly or corrupt or heretical or whatever.

Bishops are priests too, and we can’t know what we would do in their position. We can’t say, “Well, I would say this and I would do that, and I would tolerate this or I would enforce that.” We honestly don’t know that. Whatever happened to Christian charity, and respect for the people that God places in authority over us? Whatever happened to praying for our leaders, rather than constantly attacking them?

No, the bottom line is we don’t trust God. Not a sparrow falls from the heavens without God’s knowledge. If a man becomes a bishop, then it is God’s will that he is a bishop.

I saw a comment on another forum criticizing a Catholic blogger for standing with the bishops. Well, they can criticize me too.

My name is valient Lucy and I stand with my bishop. I stand with him not because he is perfect, but because, by virtue of the sacrament of Holy Orders, he is a succssor to the Apostles. I stand with him because he was appointed by the Holy Father to be my bishop, and by being in communion with my bishop, I am in communion with the Holy Father. I stand with by bishop because I have faith in God, that God, who can act through water, bread, and wine, can act through an imperfect man, and because I have faith that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

It means he is obeying his Superior.
JM3 your comment brings up a question that I am confused over. I dont know if you or someone else would know the answer to.

Who exactly is his Superior. Is it still Fr Flanagan, founder of SOLT (is he retired?) or is it the present day Superior Fr Sheehan?

Im not clear to be honest on this point.

It’s obvious that Fr Corapi sees it as being Fr Flanagan. (Does anyone know if Fr Flanagan has made any public statements on Fr Corapi’s situation? I know Fr Sheehan has. As well as Bishop Gracida.)

Thanks in advance for anyone who may have solid answers to these question. 👍

I do think it would make a big difference.Check the June 23post o f the black sheepdog.us for Fr Corapi’s most recent written post, under which were You Tube short excerpts that Jesus Christ is the answe June 13 .I pray for and at this time believe him:signofcross:

Where did you get the idea that his administrative leave is illicit? It isn’t.

What sort of “message” would you like to send to the Bishops, and how?

Which teachings have the bishops violated?

The Church hasn’t gone anywhere. And they’ve asked Fr. Corapi to come back. I pray that he does.
