I found his Youtube video a little disturbing but if what he says about the process/investigation is true and complete, then the process is very wrong. An accused person has an absolute right to know what is being accused against them. The potential for abuse is so great in this current scenario.

Fr. Corapi knew his accuser and what she was saying…he commented on the letter. To have them in the same room is not right, the men or women should be questioned alone, they do that in civil actions also. Court is different, but that is what is done when evidence in secular world leads to that, in religious communites, it is between your superiors and the priest unless there is criminal behavior.

It had only been 3 months but whether is was his ego (how dare you cross me) or depression in thinking the outcome would be against him or just a desire to leave, the impetus was there.

I think the scandals made the pendulum go in the other direction but Father was never accused of child abuse, they just asked him not to be in the public eye while they questioned people and he wasn’t really anyway. It’s not like your parish priest who couldn’t say mass or do other functions. He did have his book penidng though.

Please love the Church. You follow the Church. I am not against the Church, I am still a priest, just not ministering publicly. - Fr. John Corapi twitter update.
Thanks for reiterating this point. Maybe if people really listened to his second message, they might understand a little more. He also has been guided by a prominent Bishop with his decision. He is only leaving the priesthood publically. He is still a priest. He is still only on suspension. He has the same status today that he did a week ago, or a month ago. He has not been laicised (sp?) at least not yet. He has decided to speak publically on radio and on his website in the status of not representing the priesthood, because it’s the only way he can. Does anyone remember Fr. Malichi Martin? A Jesuit that basically did the same thing. HE IS NOT LEAVING THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, nor does he want anyone else that has followed him to do!!!

That being said, he believes he has been given a raw deal. Yep, he is angry, very, very angry about this turn of events. And no, this is probably not how a saint would handle the situation. He has not by any means been canonized yet. But God is not probably by any stretch of the imagination, through with him yet either!

So many of you have also aluded to the fact that this is all about the money. Well, maybe it is! Just maybe he knows that people he employed or possibly others are dependant on an income from his sales. None of us know the whole of the situation.
ONLY GOD KNOWS THE WHOLE OF HIS INTENTIONS OR WHERE HIS HEART IS!
And maybe he is trying to control the collateral damage all by himself, but how many times did any one of us do the same…not TRUSTING ENOUGH.

I for one have a great deal of compassion for him. He is very obviously walking the fires of hell at the moment. This terrible situation has probably also taken a toll on his physical well being which was not great to begin with as he had some health problems. Maybe he has made mistakes, maybe not taken the right path…let any one of us that has been perfect and always followed the correct path CAST THE FIRST STONE.

HE NEEDS DESPERATELY OUR PRAYERS! PLEASE PRAY FOR HIM AND OTHER PRIESTS IN THIS SITUATION OF WHICH THERE ARE MANY.

From a bishop:

I believe that he is justified in not seeking to clear his name through a canonical process; at the present time such processes are very flawed in most dioceses. Rather I would like to believe that he intends to try to clear his name through the civil courts. Since I believe that his accuser is a former manager of his media company who he terminated with some kind termination agreement, and since she has evidently sought revenge for her termination by writing to the Bishop of Corpus Christi denouncing Father John, I believe that it is possible for him to do so and I wish him every success in such an endeavor. The basis for his lawsuit would probably be defamation of character, libel, extortion, breech of contract, or whatever

He is scandalizing the Church. He is setting himself above the Church. He’s engaging in revealing the sins of another person, perhaps even breaking the seal of confession if any of this was revealed to him in the sacrament. There is no room for disobedience to the bishop. There has been no verdict rendered, only vague statements that his canonical lawyer has supposedly thrown in the towel. Well, let’s hear from his canon lawyer! Lawyers love to get in front of the camera. I want to know what canon lawyer told John Corapi that the system is hopelessly stacked against him.
Are you listening to what Father has actually said?

We’re veering again toward baseless gossip and speculation, and a lack of charity. If this continues this thread too will be closed.

Is that what you want?

This is a sad situation in so many ways.
Much of what is said here and elsewhere in some Catholic blogs is not helpful in any way.
What is needed, in my opinion, is prayer and silence.
There was silence until Fr. Corapi started issuing statements.

Hmmmm…reminds me of the attitude of the pharosees/jeerers at the foot of the cross…

And NO I am NOT comparing Fr Corapi to Jesus, so don’t even go there.

This is not the American legal system we’re dealing with here. Canon law works differently.

Unfortunately, that’s inevitable, considering the moderaters will post a warning (twice at least) and right after it people will continue like they never read the warning. In one ear and out the other. It’s a shame, too. 😦

You raise a great point here. The sexual abuse scandal technically has no effect on this matter. The Dallas Charter only deals with children or particularly vulnerable adults. The investigative process that was being conducted in accordance with general Canon Law and not any special rules developed because of the child abuse scandals.

To lose another priest is the greatest sadness…😦

Some have said how ego centric he is…well, I believe St Paul bragged alot about his miseries and persecutions. And this is in the bible. God calls everyone different. Maybe reading/hearing about other peoples’ miseries gives us courage to continue in our own…

There are just no other words…😦
Good point. St. Paul even bragged about not bragging… 🙂

However, I would also suggest that St. Paul went out of his way to not take money for his ministry either. Heck, he bragged about that too. 😉 So comparisons between St. Paul and Father Corapi may not be entirely appropriate given the situation.

I am still so distressed over this decision and all that has come to light recently - everything about it is wrong on so many levels. Fr. Corapi pointed me in the right direction at the beginning of my re-version to the faith, his passion was inspiring and sincere, I am sure of it.

And I don’t condemn Fr. Corapi now, guilty or innocent of the allegations, I mean he must have been Number One on Satan’s hit list for all the good he did in the past. There but for the grace of God go I. Who’s to say we would resist the attacks of the devil that he no doubt has faced. I am praying so hard for him that he will return to the fold, I do believe he has fallen on the battlefield and needs our prayers to help him rise again.

One thing I noticed, another poster mentioned his audio message and the rustling of papers - I looked at one of his recent messages on Youtube before the scandal broke, link below, dated Feb 23rd
:
youtube.com/watch?v=rrEp6g9Cd14

It was his message for Lent 2011, encouraging us to learn our faith and our Catechism. There is nothing wrong with the message itself but if you watch it, it’s only a couple of minutes long, that is not the Fr. Corapi of old. In this strange studio recording, he stumbles through an explanation of what Lent is, looks distracted, uses an Internet definition of Lent he has printed off in front of him, and seems to have totally lost the passion for preaching that he used to have. His heart is not in it at all. The only time he perks up a little is at the end where he heavily promotes his DVD series on the Catechism - brilliant I would agree - but in all honesty he’s like a shell of the priest I once watched so avidly. Fr. Corapi hardly ever had recourse to notes, he could preach on anything with fire and vigour. Something has gotten to him here.

God heal him, St. John Vianney intercede for him, Mother Mary protect him.

Yes something bad has gotten to him.

I don’t care for his black sheep dog website theblacksheepdog.wordpress.com/. -

Curious, Padre Pio said the devil was like a “rabid dog tied to a chain; beyond the length of the chain he cannot seize anyone” and Fr Corapi’s website says the black sheep dog is"unleashed."

Father Jack didn’t claim that he did or didn’t. I think Father Jack has a point there is a lot of uncharitable and totally speculative posts in every direction on this thread. I think we should be careful to respect the clergy that post of CAF.

Two post before this one is comparing Fr. Corapi to unleased rabid devil dog. I hope they close this tread.

But there is a term I hear mentioned in Canon Law and that is procedural fairness.
The procedure barely got moving before there were civil lawsuits and then he quit. If the procedure was unfair he had routes of appeal…

Fr. Jack said that silence and prayer is needed. We definitely need to be charitable and prayerful, but silence will only happen when there’s no new news.

As a member of the clergy that posts on CAF I thank you for looking out for us.

There’s many threads all over these boards in which individuals make uncharitable comments about public figures. Its unfortunate but not surprising.

Yes, we are getting gas and not water thrown on the fire. This whole thing is just very disquieting. Personally it would be better for me not to pay any attention to it, however I have a fair number of people who listened to Fr. Corapi, and were on their way back to the Church, and I need to be able to answer their questions. I don’t have any good ones yet. I just hope they don’t stubble into any of these types of threads… could do a lot of damage.😦
