lol, if you read my original post (i.e., the one v is calling me out on), I suggested that Corapi found the success he failed to find as a layperson by donning the collar.

A more charitable take on Corapi than offered by my original post might leave room for the possibility that he didn’t cynically embark as a novice-theologian for SOLT with the intention of winning fame.

Also, I don’t think there’s any need for revanchisme against the people who were really gun-ho on defending Corapi at all costs [n.b., except maybe for this one guy, and he knows who he is 😉 … nah, just kidding]… even if you were apathetic to or didn’t like Corapi’s approach, its pretty much another fallen priest who lied to our faces. Its a sad thing for anyone who calls the Church ‘home.’

Let’s hope + pray that John Corapi knows what to do and DOES IT.

… A little sparse however as far as volunteers wanting to post their conjecture on his accuser’s intentions - on the intentions of the one doing all the wielding.

I just hope we’re not forgetting to pray for both of them.
 
I’ve been praying on and off for him since news first broke of this scandal in Lent, but now I think MEGA prayers are needed that he will return to the SOLT as they have invited him to do so. They must have felt they had a responsibility to his “fans”- whose souls could be jeopardised by following him - to make such a statement with so much detail in it. This is very unlike any Church authority to do so. They must have felt things were getting out of hand. I had to stop reading halfway through because it made me feel sick to my stomach. Not because I’m judging him - because I feel so sorry he has fallen. My past sins are horrifying enough to know that there but for the grace of God go I.

I remember him talking once about a phone call he received in the middle of the night about a “brother priest” who he had to go and retrieve from a crack den. Holy Michael the Archangel, deliver him from all evil, and set his feet in the path to life in Christ.

Our brother Fr. Corapi has fallen. God help us to remain on the narrow path to eternal life with you, and God grant Fr. Corapi the grace to return to obedience, humility and ultimately, life everlasting.
 
And as an addendum to my above post - as well as the motivation being to save the souls of Fr. Corapi’s fans, I believe the SOLT would also hope that their bold statement may save Fr. Corapi’s soul. They have ultimately shone a light on the darkness and confusion that was surrounding his actions - he cannot ignore this statement, so he has been forced to choose which path he will now follow, the path towards light or darkness - God give him the strength to resist temptation and deliver him from evil.
 
I also think they were thinking of the lambs he would lead astray. Sinning is one thing, we all do, I wish I could erase many, but when you are hypocritical, you defame the words you are saying, if they are just words, they have truth, but they are measured by who is saying them. The Catholic church doesn’t need to have any more people doing that.

It was obvious to most he needed help, the quick pull-out from the seemingly easy case, the slurs for the bishops and the accuser, the rambling messages, slurred words, not photo or video. He probably needs a lot of help again, I hope he gets it.
If it’s character, that’s one thing, if it’s addiction, that’s another. I only got the help I needed when I turned to Mary.
 
As I have said in the other thread, could there be a medical problem that would change his persona? Just wondering… 🤷

As one ages, if one has had a history of drug
addiction in earlier years, then yes, the neurological
damages can “suddenly” appear. They can be overwhelming.

Since EWTN (among others) first posted the July 5 press release in which Fr. Gerard Sheehan drops a bombshell on Father John Corapi, the blogosphere, the Twitterverse, and Facebook have been abuzz with speculation that the press release is a hoax. Some have pointed to apparent contradictions (if Father Corapi has submitted his resignation from the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity, how can SOLT order him, “under obedience, to return home to the Society’s regional office and take up residence there”?); others to the timing of the release (“Father Sheehan will not be available for comments as he is attending the SOLT General Chapter from July 5-23”). Still others note (as I did) that the tone of this press release is somewhat different from SOLT’s June 21 press release, which seemed more guarded.
 
It is entirely possible that someone could have written the release on behalf of Father, read it to him, gained his approval, and then posted it to the site. Don’t get all hung up over style - this is not a CSI episode. :rolleyes:

Sadly, it is real life, which makes it even more pitiful.

How could this possibly be a hoax? In these days of instant communication, the people concerned would know something had happened and would be quick to correct it. And what would the motivation of the hoax be? Would it be someone who backed the Bishop? Or someone who backed Corapi and wanted his order to look ridiculous?

Occam’s Razor - the simplest explanation is the correct one.
