What has happened to Fr. John Corapi? he was a wonderful appologistic voice for our Catholic faith…then, just very vague statements. Is he no longer a priest?

He says he has resigned his priesthood, but he has not been laicized. For the time being, he remains a priest, though if the situation goes on too long his order will likely put him up for the process…

He exchanged the gospel of Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Church for right wing conservatism and it lead him into inquity and rebellion. Google it and read about it. I saw this long coming in Father Corapi. I hope he realizes his error and repents.

Peace,
David

It seems Fr. Corapi has a penchant for the good life including hookers. He was called on the carpet and decided he had had enough of the disipline of his community (SOLT) so he, essentially told SOLT to “go fly a kite up a dark alley” announced he was leaving the priesthood (but keeping his ranch, boat slips, motorized toys and hooker girlfriend in Montana) and has set out on a new evangelon.

Billing himself as “The Black Sheep Dog” he will soon reemerge as a kind of right wing commentator on social issues.

He has totally slipped a cog and needs our prayers. Apparently all the stuff he taught was for the audience and not from the heart of “Dog” as he now prefers to be called. “We have come to the end of an era.” avers Dog. Note the royal “we” and the concept that portions of his life are “eras” for we his subjects. I always thought something was fishy with Dog. Off by himself in Montana, etc. etc.

No, I’m ot making this up, go to the SOLT website and here to see “Dog” in action: theblacksheepdog.us/

There have been numerous blogs and websites and threads on the internet on the subject, but almost all cause division, and gossip, and sometimes a scandalous lack of charity and clarity on both sides of the discussion. Sometimes is it best to leave a matter alone? If we pray rather than post the same sources over and over and speculate whether the man who now repudiates the title “Father” is misguided or worse, or a victim?
Is prayer the primary thing we should be doing in relation to him?
May the good he was instrument to remain,
and scandal and division be healed. May God’s love and will triumph.

Hi to all,

This case is so scandalous that I think a thorough investigation is called for, to figure out what exactly happened, how this situation was able to endure, and how we can prevent it again. It should be possible to prevent this, especially when talking about a religious priest.

The Church can’t afford any more scandal on this scale; it’s destructive to our message. The man was just too public, too admired by so many (and I thought quite highly of him myself). This sort of thing is seriously hurtful to very good people.

God Bless,
Joan

I can’t believe what I’m reading. I always thought of Fr. Corapi as the staunch defender of the faith. I followed him every week on the catechism. Wow, what’s going on?😦

Horrible stuff - and apparently for quite some time, now. 😦

In hindsight, a great many mistakes were made, but at the time, everything seemed very reasonable - he was very charismatic, and very convincing, at the time. People were willing to overlook some of his quirks (needing to live alone on a ranch, for example, instead of living in community), because he seemed so sincere.

Human nature. He is just more public than we are. We all sin. We are all tempted with serious sin. Not all of us overcome that temptation all the time. How much truth there is to the allegations are irrelevant to me. He was and excellent catechist and I learned much from him. The Church does not allow him to teach now, so I will honor that. Any sin he has is between him and God.

It doesn’t mean that what he taught wasn’t right. There seems to be a situation where he may not have lived up to it himself, but if not, not our place to judge, but only to pray, and to remember that truth and goodness comes from God, and is no less true if the person delivering it may appear to fall by the wayside. He is just a man, and we human beings don’t always live up to what we should or profess.
Please don’t be discouraged, and as you know there are other good Catholic sources on the internet.

:clapping:Very wise and charitable to boot! Thank you so much for this! You are a breath of fresh air!👍

Imagine how happy the Devil is with this very effective Priest being silenced as an authorized teacher of the Catholic Faith.

Father Corapi was accused. His Bishop and Order are obliged to investigate and asked (directed?) him to forego public ministry until the investigation is completed and a determination made regarding the truth OR NOT of the accusation.

This proud Priest chose take a different route for reasons he stated.

I will not berate Father Corapi based on hearsay, insinuations, half truths, and distorted facts taken out of context. I will trust the Church to set the record straight in due time.

In the never ending Spiritual War, the Devil has won this round. A strong voice for the Catholic Faith has been silenced. I miss him. We should pray for a fair determination and for a new and effective voice equal to Father Corapi.

Greetings Pnewton and Trishie,

I am blessed to be running into you two folks more often in Catholic Answers Forum.

I appreciate your posts in relation to this topic.

Greetings to the OP, and those who are posting and or reading this thread,

No matter what happens to Fr. Corapi, we need to remember that he is a human, and like us is capable of sin. We are called to pray for eachother and to encourage each other as long as it is called Today. Let us pray for him. Let us look at our own shortcomings before we are quick to criticize another.

God bless.

I don’t know what you mean by “hearsay”. You can look on the tax assessors website in his Montana county as see the properties he owns. You can see his website with a picture of him on a motorcycle, from the back, and watch his video about not looking back. You can see his goatee is now black. You can see the leather Harley biker outfit. It isn’t hearsay if you see it. This man caused scandal, when confronted he had the option of bowing to authority, e.g., Eutenauer, or rubbing it in the face of the Church, he chose the latter.

None of those are particularly destructive or prove the really damning accusations about bribery, payoffs, witness tampering, prostitution, etc…

Until those are proven or at least discussed in the open, I’ll just sit back and watch. He no longer has authority as a priest, but we have yet to hear all the details regarding his order and their credibility. We simply don’t know. Yeah, his whole image is a departure but there’s nothing immoral about riding a bike or wearing a leather jacket, particularly now that he cannot act as a priest.

The disobedience to his Order is real enough. The rest is unimportant.

SOLT is not an order, but rather a Society of Apostolic Life. Members in a society such as this do not make religious vows.

Hi Pnewton,

It is human nature to sin and to be imperfect, but there are different levels of sin. To live a double life, especially while representing the Church and giving spiritual leadership, is a very grave thing, and we do not all do that.

I don’t know what the man may or may not be guilty of doing, but if the allegations I have read are true or largely true then he as been discredited in a serious way, and he should not be seeking further public attention or a following of any sort if he honestly wants to repair his life.

I’ll say again that thought needs to be given as to how this sort of thing can be prevented in the future. Celebrity should never be a reason for the rule of an order to bend or change, that’s for sure.

God Bless,
Joan
