I considered it a mockery of our Faith, however, when he put out Catholicism for Dummies. If I were not a Catholic already, that would have been a turn-off for me to convert with the assumption that as a non-Catholic, I was a dummy. Can’t imagine a Jew publishing “Judaism for Dummies” or a Lutheran publishing “Lutheranism for Dummies.” 😦
You really don’t know what you are talking about here. The “…for Dummies” series is a highly respected umbrella for books which take complex matters (computer langauges, finance, religion) and present them in clear formats.

Far from mocking the faith, Father’s book has probably led many to understand our faith deeper or to embrace it.

Oh, and since you asked, here is where you can buy “Judaism for Dummies”:
amazon.com/Judaism-Dummies-Ted-Falcon/dp/0764552996

P.S. - I am sorry if you read this as snippy, but I am annoyed that you would take a shot at a priest while they lay in critical condition in a thread where we are only concerned and praying that father recovers.

I just searched the web and the only thing I can find is that he was in a car accident on Monday the 19th and that was from a Christian blog. Does anyone know of a news source?

He didn’t name the book.
Its a popular series of books with Dummy in the title.
the title. The title also includes the words and a primer for the rest of us. For those to proud to admit their ignorance. This version is very faithful to the Church.
Its a recommended read for anyone wanting an jnformartive yet easy read.
Stay away from the comparable Idiot book. Borderline unfaithful. My prayers go out to this loyal priest.

Prayers for Father Trigilio. I don’t think he has been doing well lately anyway…and now this. God have mercy on us all!

Still sounds disrespectful to me. I feel the same about Catholicism for Idiots. There should be a certan minimum respect afforded when discussing religion IMO.

That wasn’t the title of the thread, and I sincerely hope he recovers fully.

Thank you for the link. Here is the relevant post

Tim Staples, Catholic Answers’ Director of Apologetics, just spoke with Fr. Trigilio. Here’s the scoop:
Code:
Father was in a serious car accident Friday night, March 16.
He was in ICU three days for observation.
He has since been released from the hospital and is currently resting at home.
Doctors will continue to monitor his condition.
He appreciates your prayer and asks for continued prayers for his recovery over the next few weeks.
Note: Members, please be sure to post substantiating links to news articles when posting previously unknown information about public figures. Thank you.

thank you. i was going to correct him, but you did an excellent job. 👍
it is an excellent series and i have bought several of their books. these books offer a thorough, but brief way of learning about a certain subject.
i didn’t realize that this priest had written the Catholicism for Dummies. i haven’t read that one myself, but i have heard many good things about it.
my prayers continue for a full recovery for this priest.

In this case, we have to go by CONTENT and not by TITLE.
The two sound similar, but Catholicism for Idiots has nowhere NEAR
the EXCELLENT reputation that Father Trigilio’s book has.
In fact, it is been highly criticized by orthodox Catholics,
so I will not touch it with a ten foot pole.

Father T., we are praying for you. Our Pastor, a most wonderful Traditional Catholic Priest was injured severely in a motorcycle accident. He has been in the hospital for almost 2 months and will be out for many more months to come. The Devil has been working overtime in trying to keep these most spiritual men out of action, I believe. Let us pray very hard for all our beloved priest. As always, “The Gates of Hell will not prevail against us”

He helped me through a tough year by appearing often on Catholic Answers, and I love his EWTN show too! May God heal him quickly and fully AMEN!

We were fortunate enough to go on the Catholic Answers Alaskan Cruise last summer. We got to meet Fr. Trigilio. What an honor. Also, this man has a tremendous sense of humor. His lecture on “lesser known women of the bible” had folks rolling on the floor. What a character. What a man of God. He is in our prayers.

on the mend

I want to thank Father Zuhlsdorf, Matt Abbott and everyone on the internet who was kind enough to keep me in their prayers. On Friday, March 16th, I was in an automobile accident. After spending three days in ICU at Clearfield Hospital (Pennsylvania), I was discharged and my Deacon Jim Rush drove me back to my parish. Although there were no broken bones (Deo gratias), I did incur injuries to my leg, arm, chest and lower torso (severe bruising and contusions). My Guardian Angel deserves a raise and promotion as I am most grateful for no breaks or fractures and am VERY grateful to be alive. I was driving back to my parish after visiting my mother in Erie. She had major surgery on her spine last month in Pittsburgh. The operation was successful but she encountered several complications which placed her in ICU for a few days. She was then discharged and taken to skilled nursing facility in her home town of Erie. I was driving (300+ miles one way) every week to be with her. The Blessed Mother has been watching over her (and me)."…

O Almighty, Eternal God, look upon the Face of Your Son and for love of Him, who is the Eternal High Priest, have pity on Your Priests. Remember, O most compassionate God, that they are but weak and frail human beings. Stir up in them the grace of their vocation which is in them by the imposition of the bishop’s hands. Keep them close to You, lest the enemy prevail against them, so that they may never do anything in the slightest degree unworthy of their sublime vocation.

O Jesus, I pray for Your faithful and fervent priests; for your unfaithful and tepid priests; for Your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields; for Your tempted priests; for the lonely and desolate priests; for Your young priests; for Your dying priests; for the souls of Your priests in purgatory.

But above all, I commend to you Father John Trigilio and all the priests dearest to me, the priest who baptized me, the priests who have absolved me from my sins, the priests whose masses I have assisted and who have offered me Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion, the priests who have taught and instructed me or helped and encouraged me, and the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way.

O Jesus, keep them all close to Your Heart, and bless them abundantly in time and in eternity. Amen.

Mary, Queen of Apostles, pray for us and obtain for us many faithful and holy priests.
