Anybody see Fr. Morris on Fox News this morning? I get more and more disappointed with this man representing every time I see him on Fox. I liked his message of redemption and how he came out strongly on how Brittany’s parents made a huge mistake by letting their daughter’s image be sexualized, but he failed to use this opportunity to talk about chastity, how kids need to be taught pre-marital sex (and birth control) is wrong, choosing instead to use the words 'she made a mistake and now she needs to move on’. Even when Gretchen, one of the hosts pushed him a couple times to comment on how this sets a really bad example for all the kids who watch her on tv, he refused to step up to the plate and almost completely side-stepped that larger issue.

Anyone else see this and have a different opinion?

I don’t think any priest should be discussing smutty celebrity news on TV; it’s beneath the dignity of the apostolic priesthood to be a ‘talking head’ on a subject of such nonsense.

I don’t know what his roll is because I’ve never seen him nor know who he is. But if he was on to specifically comment on it, he should take his role of apostolic priesthood seriously and shepherd his listeners.

I agree with you, to a certain extent. This sort of tabloid issue should be totally avoided as it piques the prurient minds of so many in the scandal-crazed viewership of Fox News, MSNBC, etc. When Fox first put Fr. Morris on as a religious and social commentator, I was pleasantly surprised to see an orthodox priest chosen for such a post.

However, after a few years of this, he seems to be devolving into the same type of talking head that you can see at any other moment on one of the news networks. It is kind of distasteful.

It came to a head several months ago when he issued an open letter to Fr. Eutenauer wherein Fr. Morris, in defense of a despicable act by Sean Hannity, came to the defense of Hannity by essential condemning Fr. Eutenauer’s handling of the situation.

I watched the initial interview (if one can call it that) between Fr. Eutenauer and Hannity as well as the open letter by Fr. Morris and the rebuttal by Fr. Eutenauer. Fr. Eutenauer was in the right in every circumstance. I could not believe that Fr. Morris would write an open letter to another priest let alone, one who was doing and has done God’s work all over the world.

Fr. Morris comes across as one who is making a knee-jerk defense of his buddy. It was especially disheartening to see this type of behavior from a Legionnaire priest! I think his superiors need to remove him from that position before he gets too comfortable with his fame and notoriety.

After his attack on Fr. Eutenauer and considering his position as a leader in the Legionaires seminary I had to dropped my support for the Legionairies and now send it to Father Eutenauer instead.

I agree with you. I probably even have a few posts on this forum praising Fr. Morris when I first saw him on Fox, commenting on how orthodox he was. More and more, I find myself being embarassed by his comments.

I’m considering writing the Legionnaires to list the growing concerns I have watching him on Fox. Anybody know how to do that?

I am really not sure what to make of Fr. Morris. He doesnt seem like he wants to Offend anyone when he makes his statements. Can’t the Legionairies find a more suitable position for a member of the clergy then as a Religion commentator on fox news? I still don’t know why Fr Morris defended Hannity in that letter. We are talking about a cafateria catholic like hannity who regularly brings evangelicals Like Franklin Graham on. And Father Eutenauer had the problem? Sometimes You need to give people a taste of medicine to correct the disease as was the case with Sean hannity.

I don’t know about abandoning the Legionnaires. They are a pretty straight bunch. What was so surprising to me is that they do not tollerate any kind of rebuke of or negative commentary about spacific religious orders or spacific members of those orders. I spend a lot of time around them and they are perhaps the most cheritable group of men I have ever met. The will have a bishop or a priest trash them in unspeakable ways and they will never utter a word.

Now, we have Morris who trashes another priest who was doing the right thing. Not only that, but he does it in an open letter. It is very non-Legionnaire of him.

Oh well… every other Legionnaire I’ve met has been a stellar person and a great leader. They make 'em good in the Legion!

Try to reconsider your support, although Fr. Eutenauer’s endevors are a great way to spend your time/treasures.

I too will write to both Fr. Morris and the Legion to see what they are thinking.

But note that it is not just Father Morris as a member; he is a leader in their seminary. One wonders what he stresses there.

What is wrong with him talking to people like Billy Graham’s son? Just because Graham is not Catholic does not mean you cannot have a conversation with him.

Hi Young Thinker:
This thread is over 3 years old. You must have done a search.

If you want to start a new thread and discuss-do that. The moderators don’t want old ones dredged up. This one’s too old.

In this Forum (Catholic News)-you need a news article to start a thread. If you just want to start a conversation-go down to the Back Fence.

God Bless you.

Thank you for your advice. I did not realize that this discussion was that old!

I Personally Believe the Good Father HAD a right to comment on this issue, since it Helps to Highlight and Reinforce Hpoly Mother Church’s Correct Diagnosis of the Moral Decay and Moral Relativism Infesting our Country and Western Civilization in General--------and of the Need to turn Back to Our God and Our Savior----PLUS Catholic Teaching. 👍

OTOH, I DO Agree that The Good Father failed in elaborating further the Position of the Church. 😦
