I don’t think any priest should be discussing smutty celebrity news on TV; it’s beneath the dignity of the apostolic priesthood to be a ‘talking head’ on a subject of such nonsense.
I agree with you, to a certain extent. This sort of tabloid issue should be totally avoided as it piques the prurient minds of so many in the scandal-crazed viewership of Fox News, MSNBC, etc. When Fox first put Fr. Morris on as a religious and social commentator, I was pleasantly surprised to see an orthodox priest chosen for such a post.
However, after a few years of this, he seems to be devolving into the same type of talking head that you can see at any other moment on one of the news networks. It is kind of distasteful.
It came to a head several months ago when he issued an open letter to Fr. Eutenauer wherein Fr. Morris, in defense of a despicable act by Sean Hannity, came to the defense of Hannity by essential condemning Fr. Eutenauer’s handling of the situation.
I watched the initial interview (if one can call it that) between Fr. Eutenauer and Hannity as well as the open letter by Fr. Morris and the rebuttal by Fr. Eutenauer. Fr. Eutenauer was in the right in every circumstance. I could not believe that Fr. Morris would write an open letter to another priest let alone, one who was doing and has done God’s work all over the world.
Fr. Morris comes across as one who is making a knee-jerk defense of his buddy. It was especially disheartening to see this type of behavior from a Legionnaire priest! I think his superiors need to remove him from that position before he gets too comfortable with his fame and notoriety.
