I haven’t really used any other missal, so the Fr. Lasance is the one I am most familiar with. And based on the differences pointed out by Cider, I am more inclined to stay with that one.

A local Catholic store says it sells the St. Joseph Missal. I believe my mother gave one to my brother as a gift once and said he likes it. Does anyone have thoughts on the St. Joseph Sunday Missal?

Are you talking about the St. Joseph Continuous Sunday Missal by any chance? I think neither the Daily Missal nor the Sunday Missal have the Latin propers, probably a huge disappointment if you’re trying to follow the Latin. That said the SJDM was a very popular missal during the late 50’s.

When I discussed it with my mother, she expressed concerns about the “complete 3-year cycle of Sunday readings”. My brother must have a different version…

When I called the store, they said they were hoping to get some Fr. Lasance missals in, but were waiting on the publishers. I guess there have been some delays. I think I may have to call the Sacramentals site someone had posted earlier. Fr. Lasance missals are a bit more expensive, but I believe they are worth it. My old one had a copyright date from the 1930’s. It believe it was my grandmother’s… 🙂

Yes, in the EF we follow the lectionary calendar from 1962 which is the same every year. Not the current 3 year cycle of readings used in the OF for Sundays. Of course you can always read the current readings on your own time. You just won’t have it at the EF mass. Although I’ve noticed many priests at diocesan EF masses use the same homily they wrote for their OF masses which are often based on the OF reading cycle.
 
I would love to find this edition in ebook format! I have one in hardback somewhere but it disappeared during my last move. Would love to be able to load it on my Nook and use it at Mass (I’m thinking it would need to be more than just a .pdf scan, so that it would have links to switch back and forth between the Ordinary and the Propers to keep up during Mass…) Anyone know if there is such a thing in the works?

Or would it just look too funny at an Extraordinary Form Mass, wearing a mantilla veil and tapping on a Nook screen…? 😃
 
Haha, talk about modern methods! I, personally, think it would look a bit odd. Plus, there is the risk of people bringing their nooks, kindles, iPads, and not actually participating in the Mass, but reading other books or surfing the Internet instead. A nice thought, but I think it could be distracting…

I too am looking for a 1945 print of Fr. X Lasance. He writes so beautiful…and I accidently had fallen in my trash can from a pile of books that I had on the floor…it was sitting on the top…I miss it so much. Sometimes you just can’'t find the most rare treasures on the net. I guess I have to keep digging…or searching through.

I’ve seen it at daily Mass and I think it’s fine as long as it doesn’t make a sound.
