Richard John Neuhaus, 1936–2009

What a great priest. Loved him on EWTN. He will be greatly missed.
 
I made the announcement earlier in the day in the thread that I started. It is simply called Fr. Richard John Neuhaus.

I’m stunned. As a loyal subscriber to “First Things” I am so saddened and wonder about the future of the the publication. As a lapsed Catholic my only hope there is someone in the wings to take over. RIP Fr. Richard John Neuhaus.
 
Christianity had no better advocate; Jews had no better friend. Fr. Neuhaus’ gift was embodied in the success of the organization, Evangelicals and Catholics Together, with he formed jointly with Rev. Charles Colson. This overcame centuries of suspicion and prejudice to permit a common platform for Christians to work together on issues of fundamental concern, starting with abortion.

He was a prodigious and consistently excellent writer. His loss will be felt.
