**Fr. Richard McBrien named in ‘apparent plagiarism’
**

South Bend, Jan. 19, 2006 (CNA) - University of Notre Dame officials have been alerted to a case of “apparent plagiarism” that involves one of its well-known staff members — Catholic author and former chairman of the university’s theology department Fr. Richard McBrien.

William Hobbib sent a letter to university officials stating that Fr. McBrien, who sits on Notre Dame’s Academic Code of Honor Committee, copied some text from a Boston Globe article for a column he submitted for the Jan. 6 issue of The Tidings online.

Hobbib, a software industry executive, is a speaker at the Archdiocese of Boston’s Defense of Marriage meetings and co-orgainzed the Convention on Voting “Authentically Catholic” on the eve of the Democratic Convention in 2004.

Even if your presumption were true, what difference does it make? I am not suggesting that one foul agenda should be met with another foul agenda, but he will certainly not stop spewing dissident garbage on account of this. How would this action really “stick it” to Father McBrien and satisfy the agenda of one of his detractors?

I guess what I am trying to say is that his books will not lose further credibility because of suspected plagarism!

Peace be with you!

Good. Maybe this will be the first of his punishments for what he’s written.

In Christ,
Rand

Hopefully man’s law will pinch him when God’s law has been applied inadequately (IMO) in his case.

I was prepared to be the dev, err… Fr. McBrien’s advocate, but upon reading the two columns, it appears to be obvious copying.
