Don’t beat up on yourself. I doubt Einstein understood Spinoza either. He was likely more impressed with the fact that Spinoza tried to reduce ethics to mathematical formulas. Spinoza’s true followers are few and far between. Many like to reference him, but they are usually vague about why they do. The one thing you can easily get from Spinoza is that he rejected a personal God, as did Einstein who was more of a Deist than Newton.I can get what they mean, but Einstein said he got it from Spinoza, and I don’t have enough brain cells to wrap round that philosophy.
