Most Holy Redeemer contingent plans return to this year’s ‘Gay Pride’ parade, other parishes invited

After a brief hiatus, some parishioners at San Francisco’s Most Holy Redeemer Church apparently plan to return to full participation in this year’s ‘Gay Pride’ parade.

In 2008, it appeared that the Archdiocese of San Francisco had finally cracked down and forced the parish to cease its longtime participation in the parade – although Most Holy Redeemer pastor Fr. Steven Meriwether said parishioners had chosen not to participate in the parade of their own volition.

“It is really just our response to… well, we’re tired of the hate mail,” said Fr. Meriwether in 2008. “The parishioners see their participation in the parade as an evangelical outreach, but they don’t enjoy being called nasty names either. This wasn’t because of any request from the archdiocese.”

But, as California Catholic Daily reported at the time, Maurice Healy, director of archdiocesan communications, said the chancery had requested that Most Holy Redeemer stay out of the 2008 ‘Pride Weekend,’ including the parade. “It was probably a combination of that and the archdiocese talking to them,” said Healy in 2008 when told that Fr. Meriwether had insisted parishioners made the decision not to participate. “At the parish level and the archdiocesan level, it probably was felt that it was a good idea.”

Apparently, at least some parishioners at Most Holy Redeemer have had a change of heart. The May 15, May 22, and May 29 parish bulletins contained the item, “PRIDE Outreach: May 29th. Short planning meeting after 10:00am Mass in Ellard Hall. For more information, contact Jim DeWan,” followed by DeWan’s email address. DeWan currently serves on the Most Holy Redeemer Pastoral Council.

are they supporting homosexuality cause if they are this is horribly wrong and against our Lord

There is a big difference between one’s innate sexual preference, and parading it. This later resembles how dogs copulated on the sidewalk before they were spayed and neutered en mass. Sexuality belongs to the bedrooms, not to the streets.

But they know better don’t they and so does their priest.Fire his behind. He may not have(cough) organized it but he gave it his “blessing”.Suppress the parish or have each participant come before the Bishop for a little catechism.
