Many Universities have departments of Women’s Studies, African-American Studies, LGBT Studies and the like. Students in such departments are eligible for the same tuition subsidies and government assistance as are available in all other departments. Public universities in the United States are quasi-private: the government funds them and the board of directors are elected by the public, but they have a large degree of autonomy. They’re able to own intellectual property and even multi-billion dollar side businesses with minimal oversight. For instance, my alma mater, the University of Michigan, owns a hospital, a sports franchise, and several apartment complexes, while also charging $10,000/year tuition to Michiganders and double that to non-Michiganders. Conversely, students at private universities are generally still eligible for government financial aid.

ROTC is a military program to recruit and educate officers through civilian colleges. It pays full tuition plus some cash allowances in exchange for four years’ service as an officer in the US military after graduation. However, all ROTC cadets/midshipmen must have their academic plans reviewed by their military officer-advisor for rigor and progress toward graduation on time; no such stipulation restricts government financial aid for civilians.

Point being they were released. I don’t really see why anyone is complaining. One would think the protesters would be more grateful.
They shouldn’t have been arrested in the first place. And certainly not by DHS acting as a secret police force.
Also what’s this Characteristic meme? Irreducible characteristic equation? Are you a fellow Algebra Chad ?
Nope, I’m pointing out the characteristics of a certain form of government. I think I’ll get a full set of 14 by the end of the incumbents campaign.

Ok thanks for the clarification.

So this comes down to return on investment. The company I work for (a large UK based automaker, you have heard of) offer degree sponsorship, to an extent. It has to a degree that has direct relevance to the business, for example Automotive Engineering. The military is similar, its looking for a direct return on investment, so they may favour Languages as degree.

The government isn’t looking for a direct return, it’s looking to “improve social mobility” or to help the poorest “escape poverty” and funding a degree is one way of doing that. It all comes down to what the end goal is.

They shouldn’t have been arrested in the first place. And certainly not by DHS acting as a secret police force.
One is assuming the truth of the assertions, of course. And the assertions are often those who were on their way to commit criminal acts. And yet, we are supposed to sympathize with them because the “cops” are in unmarked cars?

So now it’s ok to arrest people because they might be about to commit a crime?

That wasn’t my point. My point was that it’s risky to accept the word of people who are involved in committing crimes, and when they have radical ideologies, they’re even less reliable. I don’t think anything cited herein so far has actually proved that anybody was arrested without cause.

But I’ll add that on occasion law enforcement people will detain someone for questioning. That has always (before now) been regarded as a legitimate aspect of law enforcement. Of course, sometimes criminals who want to rat some comrade out will arrange their “arrest” so their partners don’t realize they’re rats.

But whatever, I have no sympathy with these criminals whatever.

But getting back to your question, it is lawful to interrupt commission of a crime.

“Instead, schools have been doing exactly the opposite. They are making young people stupid. They don’t teach student how to think or learn. Instead, they teach them how to emote and uncritically accept. Those in charge of schools have dumbed down curricula, injected social re-engineering and leftist propaganda into class rooms. The result is that schools – public and CATHOLIC – have churned out wave after wave of drifting, minimally informed dupes, ready to get suckered into backing whatever loudmouthed leftist organizer comes along. This is what we see in the streets today.”
I’d say that this is pretty much right on the money.
