France has expelled two radical Islamist leaders in the wake of the London bombings and plans to round up and send home up to two dozen more by the end of the month, the interior ministry said yesterday.

Underlining the difference in approach between London and Paris, a ministry spokesman said France had “no problem” deporting speakers accused of inflaming anti-western feeling even if they were French citizens and recognised as preachers by France’s 6 million-strong Muslim community.

I applaud France for doing something but I question the wisdom of simply kicking these hate-mongers out of the country and letting them spew their venom somewhere else. They need to be isolated somewhere in order to limit the damage that their rantings can cause others to do in the name of religion.

can’t we just find a deserted island somewhere and just drop them off. Give them food, bibles, and tents for shelter, and that is all. Do not give them any electronic equipment. Let them live on their island in peace not to be disturbed by society. (i.e. in exile and quarentine the island and the island is under surveilance).

It may sound extreme but we are dealing with extremists.

If they try to swim, the sharks will take care of them.

My question is where are they going? I read last week that a pile of “deported” types were dropped off in Afghanistan where they are continuing to rev up their audiences.

Geesh, I guess Afghanistan is the “least worst place”. Isolation would be even better, altho controversial. This is one of those conundrums that arises from living in a lawful, highly litigous society.

But what would happen once all those Islamists were in one island together? This could be the beginning of a great adventure novel - rivalries between different groups, factions vying for control of the island, imaginative escape attempts. Not to mention the free “martyr” publicity.

A similar tactic was used with Napoleon after his Waterloo defeat. He was imprisoned on the island of Elba, where he lived comfortably but was relatively isolated. Nevertheless, he managed to get out and try to regain power.

…better make sure those Bibles are in Arabic and Pharsi.
