I wouldn’t say porn but I took a sex class in college and they showed people having sex on film.
That is definitely porn. There is almost no legitimate reason to watch it. A college class certainly isn’t a legitimate reason.

I disagree in a class all about sex. The sex was being done within the context of sex researchers (yes, there’s a thing).

The films demonstrated uh. . . . things that happen within the sexual context.

There is no legitimate need for anyone to research that subject by watching two people have sex.

That is fine, but I’d be curious to know what you think is a legitimate reason to watch two people having sex?

Well a few things come to mind.

First all of the students may not have had sex to could certainly be exposed to that in a class all about sex.

Second- I learned- and saw female ejaculation- sorry you asked. Many people don’t know about that.

There are also x-rays taken of people having sex- showing orgasm and the structure within.

In any case- we are taking this OP off topic.

FUS Theology professor John Bergsma also comments on the use of Carrere’s book on his FB page–Jan. 9th, just under the screenshot of the university president’s letter.
I’m proud of Scott Hahn and John Bergsma for their vigorous defense of Our Lady!

Not really off topic. That is curiousity which when applied to certain things is a vice. It is desire to know things we shouldn’t or have no right to know. That is the same thing behind many other cases of looking at things we shouldn’t.

We shouldn’t know or be exposed to the dynamics of sex? Sex is a foundational aspect of the human experience

I didn’t attend Christendom College. Sex is seen as value neutral in the secular sphere not something to be hidden of whispered about

Catholics are the most open and free people about sex. If all this secular teaching and exposure is so great why are there more sexual problems today than ever before? You don’t need to watch something to know about it. Otherwise books would be useless.

Sex therapists definitely need to view these things as research. It is a legitimate field, and there are plenty of people in need of sex therapy in order to live healthy lives.

My question is how those who are against this book, including Dr. Hahn, can have an educated opinion without reading it? Even if read in order to review it, as an academic exercise, it is still reading it. So if it is acceptable for one person to read it for academic purposes, why not graduate students studying a specific issue? There seems to be a catch-22 here. The same can apply to any legitimate topic of study, including sex from psychological and biological disciplines.

Looks like the teacher knew why people took their class and/or was ensuring a good review. 🤣

Does one need to drink a full glass of poison, once the first sip indicates it is poison?

No, but only because there are other ways of knowing, like knowing that other have died of it. But even that is different, as what is dead, and not dead, is rather black and white. If the question is what is appropriate, that requires a judgement one way or another.

Not interested in debating Carrere. I don’t know how much Dr. Bergsma, Dr. Hahn, or Fr. Sheridan read, but I read enough excerpts from the original text to know that it is vile blasphemy. I neither need nor want to read another word from that book.

Maybe I wasn’t clear in my question, why would a Catholic university subject any student to blasphemous, vile material at any level?

The students needed bread, so the professor gave them stones. They asked for fish, so he gave them a serpent.
