Looks like all the right people are freaking out! 👍 Thank you Holy Spirit!!
 
You know something has been off kilter for a while when the occasion of a bishop being elected who has a history of good-natured, but total support for ALL Church teaching elicits shock and groans…

These are tough days for the Call to Action crowd (some of whom I’m related too…).
 
Interesting that in times of moral crisis, there is a strong move towards orthodoxy.

It should be pointed out that the episcopacy is usually somewhat more conservative than the laity. But if they weren’t, they probably wouldn’t be doing their jobs.
 
I’ve read many of the reactions in National Catholic Reporter, and the article that is cited completely mischaracterizes them. There is no “freaking out” – they note that the new president of the USCCB is more conservative and that, contrary to every precedent, the vice-president was passed over for the job. They also note that the vice-president carried some baggage from the sexual abuse crisis that may be partial explanation for this unprecedented election.

Another dumb misinformation piece.

Even if it is partially true----so what?

Oh my Gosh----an Archbishop who follows the teachings of the Church!!! Horror of Horrors!!:eek:
 
I have never met Archbishop Dolan. However I do know several priests who have worked for/with/under him over the years. And based on what they have said, I don’t recognize most of what the critics are saying as true.
Is he “conservative”? Yes, but that’s not the best term to use. He’s “conservative” on issues like abortion, marriage, sexuality, etc. but many conservatives would find his stand on health care and immigration to be more on the “liberal” side. He upholds the teachings of the Church and is in step with the general mindset of the Church on contemporary issues. From what I’ve heard he’s not a knee-jerk reactionary but is thoughtful and receptive to other’s ideas.
Does he have a “confrontational approach”? I haven’t heard that from anyone who knows him nor have I seen it in anything he’s done in New York so far.
“Is he going after gays and lesbians?” I’m not even sure what that criticism is supposed to mean. He certainly upholds the Church’s teachings but I’ve neither heard of nor seen him “gay bait.”
 
Not to be outdone, the website of the Tucson Citizen accused Dolan of evincing an “arrogant” attitude in winning (it is true that he was caught smiling).

I guess that was the story’s attempt to explain “arrogant”. 🤷
