The Commission of Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland has commended the ‘courage’ of Bishop Philip Tartaglia of Paisley who this week challenged the Scottish Government’s stance on proposals to redefine marriage to include same-sex couples.

The Commission of Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland has expressed ‘deep dismay over the Scottish Government’s current proposals to introduce same-sex ‘marriage’ in Scotland.’

With respect, Jharek this development resonates beyond Scotland. It is not the size of the Free Church congregation which is relevant, but its praise and support of the actions of the bishop of the Catholic Church. This ‘seminal moment’ in relations between the two churches in Scotland has wider ramifications as it speaks to the unification of people of faith against the concept of same-sex ‘marriage,’ an issue that is being ushered in Scotland, and indeed England and Wales, by secular politicians in government without referendums to allow the electorate to decide.

This is good. I wish all Christians would oppose “gay marriage”. Unfortunately not only do some Christians not oppose it but they endorse it as well. How they can support such an evil thing when the Bible so clearly condemns homosexual acts, I don’t know.

These are the kinds of things that very rapidly lead to civil wars.
If defending the gospel of Jesus Christ leads to Civil War then so be it. Christians have been too apathetic about what is right and what is wrong for FAR FAR TOO LONG! We as Christians are expected, in fact are pretty much required to defend the gospel. If it means war, or death…so be it.

Isn’t the Free Church of Scotland known for being anti-Catholic? This means the Catholics and Protestants, in a very religiously divided society, are coming together to defend those moral values near and dear to ALL Christians, rather than attacking each other. This is GREAT news.

In a way, it’s kind of like “Nixon going to China.”

True----but it DOES show Gay Marriage is not just opposed by Catholics and “extreme” Evangelicals but also by other denominations and is not an issue exclusively tied to “extremists.”👍:o

THAT IS the issue…some of us who accept gay people in our meetings and congregations as full memebers and fellow Christians don’t believe the Bible is as clear on the subject as many believe…the Bible does not portray a single sexual ethic…nor does it ever address same sex relationships as understood today…those passages in scripture that seem to condemn homosexual behavior must be read in context and in the time frames of which they were written…those of us who accept same sex marrage/civil unions have done so…not because we reject the scriptures…but because we embrace the scriptures and understand them differently…the Bible does not “clearly” condemn homosexual acts.

Holy Scripture affirms that man and woman were created for one another:“It is not good that the man should be alone.” The woman, “flesh of his flesh,” his equal, his nearest in all things, is given to him by God as a “helpmate”; she thus represents God from whom comes our help." Genesis 2:18-25 and from the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
And from St. Paul:
“Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the Church…that He might sanctify her…For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one. This is the great mystery, and I mean in reference to Christ and the Church.”
In other words, human marriage ifs a reflection of Christ’s relationship with the Church on earth. It’s a holy thing given to us by God. It’s not meant to be turned and twisted into something that God didn’t intend it to be.

👍 We’ve been silent for too long. And in silence is implied acceptance of what’s being pushed on us.

No one wants to fight a civil war. But at the same time, we can’t stand by and say nothing while these kinds of things are going on.
In the words of Edmund Burke: “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing”.

Jesus Christ came not to bring peace, but a sword.

Who said anything about WANTING to start a civil war? If the word of God brings war or death then that’s what it brings. We are called to proclaim truth. We are also called to proclaim truth with LOVE, but proclaim truth we must. Now if you want to sit back and in silence condone sin, then you will have to be the one to answer to God. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Yes, I’m afraid so. But if it comes down to civil war or willful apostasy, I’ll cast my vote for war.

Balderdash.

The only way you can interpret Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:27, 1 Corinthians 6:9, and 1 Timothy 1:10 as anything but a clear condemantion of homosexual acts is to so totally and deliberately delude yourself that you’re literally making black into white.

Beside this, there are nearly too many instances in Christian Patristic literature, synods, councils, and sermons whereby homosexual activiity is roundly and flatly condemned (St. John Chrysostom stated that it was worse than murder) to enumerate.

What it all boils down to is exactly what the Catechism clearly states: homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered, and under no circumstances can they be approved.
