Scary, ain’t it? This bill failed when the American public found out about it and just about melted the congressional switchboard on the day of the final vote. But, it will be back. Oh yes, again, and again-til they finally get it through. Who are they? Well, they’re not republicans. Roanoker
 
Welcome to finance. This is the only plan to pay our bills. The US congress has already spent the proposed taxes from these immigrants, without the immigrants bankruptcy is the next best solution.
 
Can’t really blame the immigrants, though, can we? Here we have the land of the FREE and the brave, and we don’t seem to enforce our immigration laws very well. Better life for them and their children; why not come to America? 🤷
 
i wonder what would have happened to the pilgrims if the indians had enforced anti-illegal immigration laws. or if they hadn’t provided services for them (such as helping them survive the winter).

i know that much of the thanksgiving story is not historical, but it does show that this country was founded on illegal immigration and the help provided by the natives to the land.

so, if you are native american, you have a legitimate argument. if you aren’t… 🤷

Gee, I’m not sure the Native Americans paid income taxes translating to possible entitlements for the Pilgrims. :confused:
Your analogy is weak.
 
At the community college where I work hundreds of illegals are earning college degrees at the expense of tax payers.This is really going on.

Would you prefer welfare? Are you selling the degrees or are they earning the degrees?

I think this is a poor argument- just because something was done in the past does not mean it is okay to do today. America’s economy was also built on slavery and we certainly don’t advocate that today. America also grew by wiping out the Native Americans but, of course, we don’t advocate that today. I just don’t like that argument of “well, if they did it, we can do it, too.” Don’t justify bad behavior with bad behavior. Also, just because “we’d do it, too,” - does that automatically make it right?? Not sure, just throwing it out there.

What does welfare have to do with anything? Why should lawbreaking illegal immigrants get welfare? Isn’t welfare a safety net for Americans? They shouldn’t be getting reduced tuition and they shouldn’t be getting governmental welfare. How are they working without social security numbers after they graduate?I guess my point is the government is enabling them and that is why there are so many of them here.

The analogy may be weak but the premise is strong… this is a nation founded by illegal immigrants!
Suddenly (two-hundred + years later) we want to shut the door on illegal immigrants?!
Now that is confusing.

Not very good analogy. There were no anti-immigration laws here at the time and the folks who lived here then welcomed the pilgrims wholeheartedly.
And to correct your ending, the “native americans” were also not native to this country. They simply MIGHT have gotten here before the europeans…

Not at all. The indians had no laws against immigration, and immigration was controlled by the white colonies long before the nation was founded.

Many consider welfare any form of government payment for reason other than sale of goods or services. For example prison. If you imprison 12,000,000 people as illegal immigrants then you need only $396,000,000,000 ( I think that is 396 billion per year). If you tax the same group that is$144,000,000,000 ($144 billion in income) so the difference is a mear $540 billion per year.
 
Our forefathers were not illegal immigrants. When they came here, there was no law against immigration. You just waded ashore, and there you were. Same as when the Indians came to America from Siberia. No laws against it. That’s a HUGE difference from today. Roanoker

Yes, in terms of being illegal. But from the standpoint of the immigrants, it’s the same…wanting to better their lives. Again, you can’t blame them for wanting to better themselves and for doing what we’re allowing them to do i.e. illegally. 🤷

The difference between illegal and legal immigration is the difference between rape and consentual sex.
