Has anyone on here been an upper level Freemason or have a real insight to what they are.

I have even heard that they really worship the devil

What is the real truth ?

From what I know you cannot be a freemason and be a Catholic. Freemasons look at all religions as equal.

From what I knew freemasons are mostly only accepting Christians to be its members and must have a certificate of good behaviour, once someone is accepted, s/he must abandon his/her Christian faith to be fully committed to them.

I almost joined them. I decided against it when they told me that the name of Jesus is forbidden to be mentioned in their temples. They have apocryphal stories allegedly linking them to the construction of Solomon’s temple, via a made up person named Hiram Obiff. They really have nothing to do with Judaism or Christianity.

Yes, it is forbidden for Catholics to join them, and I believe that it is even grounds for excommunication. (Forbidden by our church that is, not by the masons)

Yes, while a Methodist I was a Mason for over 30 years, and an officer of my lodge.
Devil worship - ridiculous nonsense! Secrets? Sure, but just the ceremonies when one goes through the degrees.

All Masons I knew were either Christians (90%) or Jews (10%). One much profess a belief in God, but other than that, religion is not discussed. Activities are social or charitable.

Meetings are tedious and boring. Rituals for the degrees are based on the building of the temple in Jerusalem.

That’s it. No conspiracies, no devils. 🙂

One correction: every jurisdiction (state) may be a bit different, and Masonry outside the U.S. Is different, but no lodge I visited or heard of forbids using the name of Jesus. Most of our lodge members were active in their churches, and Jesus was mentioned lots of times, in informal discussions. Officially, though, Masonry is not specifically Christian.

Interesting. The lodge which I almost joined made it clear that the name of Jesus could not be mentioned inside of their temples. They didn’t say why. I attended a few of their functions, and they seemed eager for me to join, so I don’t think that it was misinformation. The lodge I almost joined is in Atascadero, California, where I used to live.

I do not care what any one says, I have read their books, they are not Christian by any means.

REad their oaths on what happens to you and you promising to comply if you tell things to people you are not suppose to … (i do not care if it is actually carried out or not)

And on of the rits include being lead with a bag over your head and a noose around your neck.
Then you have the laying back into a coffin with a blind fold…

AND on top of this, when you join you are asked to say something along the lines that you are in darkness seeking the light and the actual truth…
If you have Jesus why do you need to renounce this and say you are in darkness and blind? Why say you do not have the light and you seek truth??
🤷

Thats true, and also women are forbidden in the temple room because we are seen as unclean
and because we have clits (which they see as a mutilated penis.)

Wow! If I had been told that I wouldn’t have joined either!

Maybe it varies by Lodge? I just know that overall and people I have came across in life, the name of Jesus is forbidden in the temple and in Masonic prayers (such as a dinner gathering to raise money or whatever)

That is total nonsense. Women attended our open meetings frequently, as did our children. I don’t know where’s you heard the thing about women, but it is a horrible lie. You should not use such defamatory, inappropriate language in a post.

It must vary - As an officer I visited many lodges and functions in NJ, and we frequently discussed our church activities. Most of us were very active in our churches.

not for the actual ceremony behind closed doors,
I could have used slang rather than proper terms…

meetings and the actual ceremonies are two different things. there are separate rooms too as I am sure you know.

Unless your lodge did things differently than most. 🤷

Have a goodnight.

EDIT
It may have been the temple alter rather than room…

Remember, each state is a separate jurisdiction. In NJ we have “open” meetings, which are held in the lodge room. Women, like all non-members, do not attend lodge meetings or ceremonies. But to allege that Masons think that women are unclean is a gross insult to my wife and wives of our friends who are still members.

Using uncharitable language toward Masons is the same as the nasty things some people use against Catholics. I wish everyone would just treat each other with kindness.

I am just saying what I have read in masonic books myself. (and recommended for masons)
No unkindness intended…

Curious, what degree did you reach?

Thank you.

Like most Masons, I was a third degree (master) Mason. If you want to become a Shriner, you go up to the 32nd degree. They’re the organization that runs the Shriners Hospitals.
