Thanks for posting! That is wonderful for
this Islamic leader to to ask French Muslims to help rebuild the Cathedral.

Mary is also the only woman to be mentioned by name in the Qur’an, so they hold her in high regard.

It would be wonderful if Mother Mary were able to build bridges between Christians and Muslims.

It’s also ironic that some Muslims probably hold Mary in higher regard than many Christians do.

Indeed. This very idea is recurrent whenever Arab Catholics and Arab Protestants meet.

“How do you feel when Muslims revere the Mother of your Lord more than you do?”

Notre Dame was stolen from the Church by the French State following the Revolution. Yes, God allows people to steal.

I’m a fan of letting the Church rebuild it. The moneys that have been pledged so far are ridiculous amounts. Such amounts aren’t necessary. Oak beams would work just fine today as they did then.

This is a sign of the times people.

Oak beams would work just fine today as they did then.
And probably cost substantially more than pretty much any other suitable material. Timbers of that size are nowhere near as available now as they were then.

The question is… If the situation was reversed and a large Mosque had been burned down, would Catholics have quickly vonlunteered to help rebuild the mosque?

Let that sink in…

Hardly. I used to transport 12x12inch rough cut oak beams to a sawmill where they were cut to custom sizes that customers ordered.

Rough cut oak is all that is needed. If France is in short supply, let them get them from their former colonies. B/c we’ve got’em.

Someone with more specific knowledge of how the cathedral is constructed can weigh in here, but my understanding is that 12 x 12 may be too small for the roof supports and that does not take length into account either. When you are talking about buildings of that size, wood is no longer the most cost-effective building material, nor is it as readily available in the sizes and quantities necessary. And I mean available at all, not necessarily available locally.
