Exorcist Fr Vince Lampert writes the following as one way of protecting oneself from evil:

“Live a good Catholic life. Frequent the sacraments, which draw you closer to God and strengthen your soul with sacramental graces. If you are in the state of mortal sin, run to confession and vow to change your life.”

How often is frequent, do you think? I can’t ask him of course, so I’m hoping I can get your best guess of what he meant. Is Eucharist weekly and confession weekly “frequent”?

Receive the Eucharist at least weekly - daily if permitting. Go to reconciliation the first opportunity after you are aware of serious sin. What’s serious? Get an examination of conscience and then ask Father about any remaining questions or ambiguities. Receive the Anointing if you are in danger of death.

The more sin (refuse, garbage) builds up on your soul, the more flies it attracts - so to speak.

In the sentence the word frequent is used as a verb, not the adverb. As such, the word is used to mean, "on a regular basis’, not necessarily, “come often”.

I would think it means to receive Holy Communion each Sunday and HDO, and if well enough and able to , then daily Mass and communion. Confession obviously asap after committing a mortal sin, but monthly is I think common, even 2-3 weekly was the advice given to me a decade ago.

If one has not sinned mortally, confession of venial sin is praiseworthy and even past forgiven mortal sins that have already been absolved and for which one is truly sorry is also valid matter for confession ← sometimes known as Confessions of Devotion.

Eucharist on Sunday and confession weekly used to be the norm for most Catholics. Nowadays priests will often recommend confession every 1- 2 months unless you’ve committed a grave sin.

I do a devotion that requires me to confess about twice a month and receive the Eucharist on as many days as I can. It has helped me to grow closer to the Lord and sin less.
