Maybe today is a good day to spend a little time familiarizing (or re-familiarizing) yourself with this good saint. I really attribute to her my return to the faith (through the Holy Spirit).

Heroic and unparalleled in bravery, Mark Twain believed she was the most fascinating human in history (I assume the exclusion of Jesus for such a contest of persons). And even more than all of his well-known and beloved books, the one he wrote about her he said would always be his favorite despite his foreknowledge that it would not be as big of a seller.

What’s especially interesting, if you did not know, is that unlike many other heroes through time that we must rely on tales or anecdotal evidence for, the Maid’s life-story is told to us in a court of law, twice, totally documented and utterly authentic. I could never make a serious argument against her while I was agnostic-- I was mystified and in love with her even while denying what she believed, futilely.

I can’t speak for everything on this site (and you must scroll down below the first parts), but it’s just one of many places you can go to read more about Saint Joan of Arc, la Pucelle d’Orléans!

I just hope that other people can have that difference that she has made and always will make in my life… and can have such a love for her!

Pax Christi, friends… please take some time to learn about her 🙂

Pax Christi!

I love la Pucelle! I’ve never been in the military, but I would pick up a sword and follow her ANY day!

You BET I would!

God bless the French!

God bless Paris!

God bless.

Can’t believe she was only 19 years old and had done so much! Also that they burnt her at the stake… 😦

One of my favorite Saints. I’ve been fascinated by her since I was quite young. I’ve read Frances Gies book on her twice.

A Favorite of mine since 11 years of age! And, I always ask myself: "Am I willing, as she was to follow Christ Jesus to the CROSS and to the fire as she did? It takes Faith, a lot of Hope and trust, and a true Love, ( forgetful of self ) to follow in her foot-steps! Can’t be "wimpy kids! " to do that!!! Takes the Gifts of the Holy Spirit! and the continued “GRACE” of God!

Such a strange figure of history. If we are to believe the concept that she was sent by God to free France, we have to believe that there was some spiritual value in France defeating England in what was historically an unjust war. No interest to me as a saint. Just a person happy to kill others in the name of “voices” in a world of superstition.
Give me a saint of peace any time over an ambiguous figure whose sainthood seems to be determined by the politics of the day.

Pax Christi!

She never killed anybody. She wept at the loss of English and French lives. And her voices are Church- approved locutions. St. George (and others) were real soldiers who really killed.

Apparently French self-rule was part of our Lord’s plan. And so was St. Joan’s generalship. She made her troops stop taking the Lord’s name in vain and go to confession and Mass.

God bless.

She also drove prostitutes away from the army. It’s quite sad to hear such negative comments about a beloved Saint on a Catholic forum. Catholicism is not a religion of pacifism, and the French we’re justified in taking up arms to expel the English from there country.

This quote has saddened me, as it has saddened many, I’m sure . . .

Joan was certainly not happy to kill others . . . I believe that she was extremely shocked at the massacre that took place! In her strong FAITH, she believed that God is in control and as it is stated so often the Sacred Scriptures: Good is taken from the evil that seems at times to overpower and subdue peoples into true submission and adoration of God who is LOVE!

Let’s ask ourselves: “what is in my heart and soul when I speak, and act? Is it the Holy Will of God, or my own selfishness, conceit, and pride!”

May the Holy Spirit educate and inspire us on our life’s path!

It was interesting to learn that at the age of 16, Joan asked her relative Durand Lassois, to take her to where the garrison commander, Robert de Baudricourt, was.
Joan petitioned the commander for permission to visit the royal French court at Chinon.

This thread is a little old, now. But really, Petaro, you ought to do a little research before making inflammatory and blasphemous statements such as that. If the Maid is well beloved by the Father and you cast stones at her, how much worse will the stones be cast upon you?

Ambiguous? There is no figure less ambiguous in almost all of history. We can say we know more for certainty of the Maid than we can of almost any other figure in history. Perhaps you could enlighten your opinion by reading
Joan of Arc, by herself and her witnesses, by Regine Pernoud. It’s an historical work, and it does not rely on fluff and opinion, but purely based on fact that was revealed to us through two trials in court (and several extra documents, such as the annals of towns, journals and correspondences of individuals, bills and payments and other ledger-type notes, etc… although these are second-fiddle to the bulk of documentation)

In fact, I severely recommend that you do, as personal advice, so that you can suitably repent for the thing which you have written. I wish you no ill, Petaro, but I want you to know the truth.
