I typically avoid putting Jesus in any sort of philosophical box. That argument does more harm than good and derails whatever discussion is going on.
even bringing up the most obvious themes of Jesus teachings derails discussions where you try square Ayn Rand with Catholicism.
Max Stirner was a nihilist both ethically and epistemologically . Rand refuted both of those concepts.
And Rand was a poseur who dropped adjectives like “epistemologically” unnecessarily into sentences to sound smart.

You would probably like Dorothy. She and Ayn Rand shared some traits. Both had a heavy handed, melodramatic writing style that at times descended into self importance. Both were hung up on appearing more intellectually legit than they actually were.

However, while in her day job Dorothy was a saintly church lady; in hers Ayn Rand was a painfully bad romance novelist.

If Dorothy Day is canonized, that will be the last straw for me.

Pope Francis has been doing his best to pander to the Left and undercut anyone who believes in Libertarian and/or Conservative philosophies.
Pope Francis’ “pandering to the Left” was what caused me to return to the Church. I left, because I saw a religion that claimed to be the one true faith, compliant with the injustices of the world. Pope Francis, however, seems to be trying to change that.

So… One might leave, another returns. Circle of life, I suppose.

Pope Francis helped me too. Not to return, since I never left, but to stop putting politics above my faith. He challenged me and has made me more sensitive to the poor. I will always be grateful for him.

By the way, welcome back! 👍
