Blessings after blessings! Just last March 25, 2007, the Provincial Superior of the SVD Philippine Central Province was ordained bishop in Christ the King Mission Seminary. Bishop Leopoldo “Pol” Jaucian, SVD was then assigned to serve the people of the Diocese of Bangued, Philippines.

In less than three months, another Provincial Superior of our congregation is appointed bishop! Whoa! This is indeed another good news for the Divine Word Missionaries!

The Holy See announced on VATICAN RADIO last June 6, 2007 the appointment of FR. ANTÓNIO JACA, SVD, Provincial Superior of Angola, as the first Bishop of the newly created Diocese of CAXITO, detached from the Archdiocese of Luanda.

Birth: November 3, 1963
Birthplace: Quéssua, Angola
Novitiate: 1985-1987 in Bandundu, Democratic Republic of Congo
Final Vows: 1990 in Ngondi, Democratic Republic of Congo
Ordination: September 29, 1991 in Melanje, Angola

After three years in his mission assignment in Angola, he went to Ottawa, Canada, for further studies in the field of communications.

He began his work with “RADIO ECCLESIA” in Luanda (the largest city in and capital of Angola) in 1999. He became its director for several years.

1999: He was elected as a delegate to the XV General Chapter.
2002: He was appointed provincial superior of the Angola Province.

He also took part in the first preparatory commission for the XVI General Chapter of the Divine Word Missionaries. After two months, he was appointed as Provincial Superior of the Angola Province.

Congratulations to Bishop António Jaca, SVD, First Bishop of CAXITO. We will include you in our prayers! May the Heart of Jesus live in the hearts of all.
