My wife tells me, “I need you” all the time. In fact before we were married she told me" I don’t care what you do, just marry me". “I need you”.

When we pray one to the other, we face one another and hold hands while we impart a Spiritual Blessing one to the other. We did that before marriage, while we received the Sacrament, and we still pray that way everyday. God will bless you if you pray one to the other. We also confess our sins one to the
other. See (James Chapter 5)
Well, yeah, Its one thing to need someone in certain ways…I need the person I love as well…I need him to be there…to be himself…to care for me the way i care for him…

I dont ever want to need a man to look after my every breath though…being totally dependant on someone is never a good thing…it creates major heartache eventually, and you lose any sense of identity you have…

I have never seen anybody give advice like that in my life…nauseating! lol
Very. I have experienced first hand what happens when women act like that and the results are often not pretty. If anyone ever said that to me I would have to laugh in their face. And honestly if thats how I need to act to get a husband then I prefer to stay single with God’s blessings.

Yeah…i was engaged twice and came to my senses both times…both men were wrong for me in the end…I have never really wanted marriage since then…definitely not my calling. I am happy being single though. I am not looking for anyone

I, too, was engaged twice. Both men were wrong for me as well. I still would like to be married and have a large family someday, but if it is meant to be it will be. Right now I am happy with the daughter I have and my horses.

Well, there is only one person I would really want to marry…but it is not possible, so i am happy carrying the torch forever. 🙂

You are wrong! When a couple gets married they become one flesh, just like the Bible says. A married couple identify one to the other, just like during the Sacrament of Marriage in the Roman Catholic Church.

Hi,
I tried Catholic match.com and was disappointed and feeling the same way as you. I moved over to Straphael.net and now we have been happily married almost 8 years. Sometimes when one thing does not work, you have to try something else. God bless you in your search.

Ok…lets say hypothetically you die tomorrow. What becomes of your wife? Does she go on welfare and get food stamps because she cant survive without your income? Does she move back in with her parents?

Yes, become one flesh…that means you need to compromise for her too…not just her doing your every bidding. ugh.

Mely,

Some friendly advice from someone who met his wonderful wife on Catholic Match:
  1. Search for only 7 out of 7. Lukewarm Catholics were not an option for me. This will allow you to eliminate the pretenders.
  2. Pray a Novena to St. Raphael … He helped Tobias a bit in the Old Testament!! We both prayed the novena at the same time before meeting on Catholic Match. Our marriage is handiwork of our Lord!
  3. Pray for a husband through the intercession of St. Marguerite of Quebec, patron Saint of match-makers
  4. Pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament as often as possible for your vocation.
  5. Pray for your future spouse every day. I know of a girl who has been praying for her future husband since age 10. She is now 26! What a holy man he will be.
I found Catholic Match to be very helpful. My wife wrote me an e-mail very early that was pretty direct saying that if I am untruthful in any way, she was the wrong girl to mess with. I am so happy she did this. I needed to know the same from her.

I hope this helps, and feel free to PM me if you have any other questions about Catholic Match or online dating in general. God definitely can work miracles on these sites if you believe one is possible!

In Christ,

JD
Thank you so much for your advice. I will take them and follow them. With this tips I feel much better and positive. I totally agree with men that follow 7 of the 7 Catholic teachings. I have met men that do not follow them, and were no different from secular guys.
I also want to share that I’m an independent girl. I moved out from my parents house over a year ago (I’m Mexican, so its a huge no-no for a single girl to lived outside the home without getting married). I feel great that I’m able to support myself.

Sorry we are arguing on your thread, my dear. I have no doubt you will eventually find the one meant for you. Keep your options open…be patient…and do what is right for you. 🙂

Well, I agree that Mexican girls should stay at home until they are married, but now that you are independent, why do you want to get married?

My heart goes out to you, mely2020. I can certainly sympathize.

Online dating can be rough, especially for those who are sensitive and looking for something real. The premise is great – in our busy yet modern world, online dating gives us the opportunity to connect with an exponentially higher number of potential partners than we would have had access to otherwise. It gives you a chance to match interests and goals but it does so before being able to establish in-person chemistry. This is the opposite of how it works off-line…and in-person chemistry can be pretty important. Another challenge to online dating is that people can misrepresent themselves more easily or at least in other ways than they in person.

I tried online dating right around the time I realized how much I wanted to get married and have a family and how much I would be willing to give of myself for both. Ironically, it was the start of the longest period without someone in my life. I have some funny stories and several frightening ones. There are a few really sweet and tender ones as well that I remember fondly. But it’s not always been easy and I’m not convinced the odds are not actually any better online than off-line. I became discouraged and now that I have nurtured my faith to being the most important part of my life, I figure the chances of finding a good Catholic woman are even slimmer. Or maybe not. Who knows? I might go back to online dating at some point but I have just placed it in the hands of the Lord for now and I am going to do my best to serve Him in whatever capacity he has in store for me.

My suggestions to you are to definitely keep trying and this means even online. As you’ve heard on this thread, Ave Maria Singles totally seems worth checking out. Remember that online you may have to go through fifty people or so before finding one that might be worth exploring. It’s just the way it is, so don’t let that get you down. It’s a process; stay determined to move forward until something really worth taking a look at presents itself. Also, be more proactive off-line. Pursue things you want to do and things that make you more of the person you want to be. There is still a lot to be said about meeting people this way or through a friend of a friend, etc. Put yourself out there, not as a person who is intent on finding a partner, but instead as someone who is intent on pursuing her goals and doing her very best to serve God. Staying focused on your purpose(s) is not only attractive and can also attract the right sort of person. This way, if it still takes more time to meet someone worthy, you are progressing and moving forward all the while which will feel good. And of course, pray, pray, pray. Novenas, the rosary and devotions to the Sacred Heart are always great. Consider boosting your prayers with penitential acts and/or good works (such as acts of charity or saying additional prayers that aren’t about asking for something) and when you do them, remember to offer them up to Our Lord. Have a Mass or two said for this intention and remember to offer your desires to Christ at Offertory in Mass. When you do make petitions in prayer, always add that, while you know the Lord could grant you anything you ask, you will never stop loving, praising and serving Him no matter what He decides regarding your request.

I will say a prayer for you as I’m sure many others on this thread have. I honesty believe you will very likely find someone before too long. You seem like a nice person and I wish for the best for you. Te deseo tu alegria.

Online dating can work

I met my husband on Match.com, believe it or not.

Granted I had to suffer through a couple of bad dates to find him…but it worked.

He was lucky enough to find me on the first try.

I’ve tried online dating, and it didn’t work in my case. o:

Daim3,

Did you try the Philippines? They are Catholic. The problem with American Catholics is that many of them haven’t been to church since they were children, or maybe a funeral once in a while?

Hey JohnDoe…

I apologise for any rudeness on my part. My temper gets the better of me sometimes.

Have a nice day. 🙂

Mely,

Women go through quite a few dramatic changes during their lifetimes, so you must be careful not to present yourself as a wised-up middle aged woman. That will scare away nice young men faster than anything. Try to act as gullible as possible when trying to hook the guy you want. Listen to him and never correct him, or boss him around either. Look to him for leadership and protection. Depend on him. Never present yourself as a modern woman who operates independently.
I’d qualify this a little more heavily but it’s basically sound advice. No man likes an aggressive or domineering woman. Well, some do, but you don’t want to marry those guys (i.e., cause they’re wimps). We do, on the other hand, like naive ingenues. No idea why, we just do. Ask any guy. World-weariness and cynicism aren’t attractive features in women, unless you’re a leftist (for some reason they can’t get enough of it).

That said, mely doesn’t need advice on how to be but how to find a man to be with!

All good advice, and I echo it, especially number 5. Growing up, all my siblings were crazy (literally, crazy – bipolar to the last, now brother is a selfish, unemployed atheist still living at home at 33 and sisters are “married” lesbians). I turned out OK: smart, good-natured, sexually integrated, and now a good Catholic. I told my girlfriend all this and said I don’t know why I turned out differently. She said, “Maybe someone was praying for you the whole time.” I said, “Who would be praying for me that wouldn’t be praying for my siblings?” She said, “Maybe your future wife.” Wink wink.

Thanks for thinking to suggest this, johndoe100. I never extended my reach outside of the USA but I have heard that the Philippines is a very Catholic country. Maybe I’ll consider it if I ever go back to online dating. Thanks again.

  2. Pray for your future spouse every day.
These two are very important!

I am glad to hear that some people have had good luck with online dating. I totally believe it’s a very viable and worthwhile way of finding someone.
