Reminds me of two occasions at our abbey. The first, at Vigils, the lector took the reading from the wrong year. I asked our oblate master “why did Fr. So-and-so use the readings for year I when we’re in year II?” The answer: “because Fr. So-and-so made a mistake”.

Another occasion, the deacon used the gospel from the wrong year. The priest giving the homily started his homily by saying: “in the Gospel we were supposed to hear today, Jesus says…”

And this is a very conservative abbey of the Solesmes Congregation where the only form of music is Gregorian chant (though exclusively in the Ordinary Form).

🤣
Oh no. That means father intentionally left out the minor elevation Sunday. That dirty modernist heretic! 🤬

in the Gospel we were supposed to hear today, Jesus says…”
That happened to us as well. After he finished reading he said, “oh bother, that was last Sundays mass.”

He is 82 though. Sharp as a tack on theology but the day to day gets muddled at times.

What he did really impressed me, but later on I learned that this was an abuse.

He said mass by memory. At first, I was impressed. Then later on I learned that saying mass without the proper books is considered to be a liturgical abuse. I was somewhat surprised, liturgical abuse at a TLM. I guess it could happen.

I cannot fathom this rumor to be true at all.
It would be very difficult at a Mass attended by the public. In the case of the rumour I heard about Mgr. Lefebvre, it allegedly occurred at private Mass in airport chapels while between flights.
I was somewhat surprised, liturgical abuse at a TLM. I guess it could happen.
Of course! And my ceremonial has a whole chapter devoted to them. Written in 1935. The issue is that today’s TLM is celebrated exceptionally, by aficionados of it. Whereas in the past, it was the ordinary form of its day, and priests were just as human then as priests today.

That alas is a wish, and often not a reality.
I pray to God that all priests would be aficionados of the Mass. 🙏
There, now it’s more than just a wish, but also as much as I can do about it right now.
O Lord, grant us many holy Priests!

Are you talking about the mass from memory or the subject of the OP? The one you’re replying to is about OP’s topic.
