Interesting that the guy who came up with the Big Bang theory was a Catholic priest and the theory was originally dismissed as something being made up to support the Christian teaching that God created the world. Now, most scientists subscribe to some version of the Big Bang theory. You probably won’t hear much of that sort of history on the History/Discovery channel – unless of course the priest was a dissident priest – then that would be one of the first things to come out. And yet the false idea that the Catholic Church is opposed to science continues to perpetuate…
I’ve seen that on many doumentaries.

This is a nice post thank you.

I was watching the HC and saw a show on there about Nostradamus, though he was an interesting guy, come on right? And the HC evidentally loves this guy with warnings that the world is coming to an end in 2012 or somewhere along those lines. And my buddy who is Christian was so intrigued by this it made me realize how easily weak minded people can be pursuaded into believing anything. I also pointed out that when they would have Christains talking they were very breif statements that didn’t make much sense. I understand now that they were simply trying to show a Christain side without showing a Christain side. I’ve noticed this with many of their shows, about Noah’s ark and other events in the bible.

I dont’ generally watch the HIStory channel, but a few weeks ago they seemed to be runnign a series on the seven dealy sins. The show description read somethign like “The sin of sloth was really mental imparement” or somethign close to that. No way would i watch that, but if anyone else did , i’d liek to hear what they actually presented. Sounds liek they were tryign to saying depression was considered a sin. which in turn sounds liek another slam on big bad catholic church, look how mean they are to menatlly ill peopel who can’t help themselves.

I used to watch History Channel. But not much, anymore. Too many “iffy” programs.

EWTN is on our TV about 95% of the time now.

I saw that, though I saw it as being impartial.
It was saying that what was ‘lust’ often now is just ‘sex addiction’. In many ways this is actually true! We make up new conditions, when the real condition is sin!
However I understand sex addiction is a genuine problem for many, and I don’t mean to mock them.

I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that some people still question whether global warming is a fact. Good grief even Republicans are grudgingly admitting it now, and the business they represent are scurrying around to look green. How is agreeing that global warming is a fact, against the great ultra conservative Catholic these days? I really don’t understand this any more than the element who still negate the efficacy of evolution. Somehow these two issues seem against ultra conservative Catholic thinking, and i’m not at all sure why.

When people are experiencing record cold temperatures, global warming (man made or otherwise) is a tough sell.

As for Republicans ‘grudgingly admitting it now’, global warming is a question of science, not politics.
And the science, at present, says otherwise.

Well the fact that we are having bitterly cold winters is also a sign of global warming. The ozone is depleating causing all weather to magnify. Haven’t you seen The Day After Tomorrow!? J/K. I’m not saying we are expiriencing global warming but I am saying you can’t throw it out just because of the cold weather. And what this has to do with this thread I have no idea so I apologize.

I just watched the series the HC did on the 7 deadly sins. It is the little things they do and say that knock down the Catholic Church. One example was a woman in the confessional and a priest hearing the confession with a snear on his face. Whenever they do a program on religion, watch for the small details in the program that either attacks the Catholic Faith or Christianity as a whole.
Well, a religion’s history never really matches its concepts.

I saw those programs also. I was very impressed.

Ironically Yours. ❤️

Was this show on after the show where they look for UFOs or the show where they go looking for Bigfoot?
Why on earth would you question their credibility?😛

Come on now, everybody knows you can’t believe most of what you see on TV. Even the news channels are biased, either liberal or conservative, so much so that it is almost impossible to get to the real truth about a matter. You know what’s really scary is the fact that the scholars, a lot of them professors, are teaching some of this same garbage at many universities.

While of course not everything said on the history channel is indisputable. To me, it has a lot more credebility than a many other TV programs. At least they talk about something other than which celebrity is in rehab or the menu on Sasha and Malias first day of school:rolleyes: .

While this may be true, it’s still not saying a lot.

I don’t know what planet you’re living on. But state after state and country after country has experienced record highs for summer heat these past few years. My home state of Washington was one of them. This past spring my proffesors home state of Georgia experienced crippling droughts. And by the way, global warming doesn’t* just *imply increases in heat. It also means dramatic changes in the cycles of seasons and increases in precipitation and such. Weather fronts and such are being messed up in such a way that states are experiencing dead of winter weather during what should be late fall weather.

To the original poster, I realize you didn’t want this to be a thread about debating global warming, but I just couldn’t allow such blatant ignorance to go unchecked.

I know it’s not a nice thing to think about, the very face of the natural world as we know it being altered because of human negligence. Conservatives don’t like change or even acknowledge it when it inevitably comes. But we must learn to distinguish between what we want to believe and what is actually true.
