Between John Paul II’s election to the papacy in 1978 and his death in 2004, more than 17 million people attended his weekly audiences in Rome.
 
The word “Catholic” was first used by Ignatius of Antioch around the year A.D. 110. It is from the Greek word katholikos, which means “toward the whole.” Ignatius was suggesting that the Church is a gift offered by Christ to all people.

That reminds me of something I was told in Brazil, many years ago. If you suspect you may have diabetes, there’s a quick and reliable — and cost-free — way to find out. First, find an ants’ nest. Then urinate on the ground, a few feet away from it. If your urine attracts the ants, you have diabetes. If they leave it alone, you’re okay.

A quick way to clean fireplace or wood burning stove glass, put a bit of the fire ash on a wet paper towel and wipe the soot right off. Then wipe the glass using a clean paper towel.

I don’t think it’s pleasant anywhere, is it?

Years ago, I once had my wallet nicked on a crowded Underground train in London. I have never again put anything at all in the back pocket of my pants.

Soviet Cosmonauts took shotguns to space with them.

It was for when they returned to Earth in case they landed in Siberia and had to fend off hungry bears.
 
Polar bear fur is transparent, not white.
And polar bear skin is black.

Combined with an outer layer of transparent fur, and you have a bear efficient at heating up its body even in Arctic conditions.

So efficient that we polar bears can overheat even at 20 below and will roll on snow for relief.
