I found this site that had a forum that was bashing Catholics terribly. Being very new to apologetics, I signed up to defend my faith. It was quite a frustrating experience to say the least. It wasn’t so much that I became discouraged, it was more along the lines that they just would not look at what you wrote so much as attacked the messanger every time something was written that they don’t agree with.

Has anyone here ever dealt with a KJV onlyist (1611 only to boot) regarding apoligetics? I would be interested to read about your experiences (as well as if you made any headway) with these types of people.

For those interested, the site I was at was:

p197.ezboard.com/fformercatholicsforchristfrm1

My sign on was miko33
I went to the website you provided the link for.

Whoa!!!

These people make Jack Chick look friendly by contrast. Obviously the only ones who hate the Catholic Church more than the fundamentalists are the ex-Catholics.

Their posts drip with venom. They say the most disgusting things about Mother Terresa, Padre Pio, Juan Diego - in fact all the saints. They truly do hate the Catholic Church and everything and everyone connected with it.

I tremendously admire the Catholics who attempt to post on this website. The replies they get thrown at them almost burn up the page.

I really do believe that such hatred needs our prayer. For these people to hate us and our Church so much, they must have some seriously wrong understandings about the Catholic faith.

Sacred Heart of Jesus convert them.

Mary, pray for them.

Scotty PGH:
I don’t think there is anything unchristian about coming away with the opinion that those bigoted, ignorant people are moronic. If you read those hateful posts and come away with a different opinion, so be it. I don’t call them morons for believing what they believe, but rather for the very ignorant, very moronic things they say about what I believe.

We all fall short of grace sometimes. My particular failing is that I find it hard to turn the other cheek when someone violently offends our Holy Catholic Church.
I think the lack of charity comes when a person moves from charaterizing another persons actions or speech to charaterizing them. I did read their statements and I do find them offensive, but I do not know them enough to understand why they say these things. St. Paul did much worse to the Church than this and nothing said by man would have stopped him. He was hardly a moron.
God Bless
Steve

As someone else stated, these virulent anti-Catholic sites seem to be populated and run by the same people. I’ve been posting on a baptist site for a while, and I recognize some of the names, style, and avatars of certain people. So that is the good news - there are hopefully only about 4 or 5 of these people out there making a whole bunch of noise.

I may be missunderstanding your statement here , but St Paul did nothing “worse to the Church”.

St Paul attacked those who were seeking to undermine the Church with false teaching or immoral behaviour. St Paul was an apostle, one of the first bishops of the Catholic Church. His teachings are 100% accepted by the Catholic Church and he was certainly no enemy of the Church but rather one of its pillars.

Kevan:
Uh, I think he was talking about Paul before he was saved.
Oh, oh! I realise how dumb I’ve been. Of course he was talking about Paul pre conversion. Thanks for the correction. Next time I’ll try to turn on my brain cell before I post a reply!

When you think about Saul, perhaps this may give us some clue as to why those people hate the Church so miuch. St Paul was a violent enemy of the faith before Jesus “whapped” him.

Again it shows that we need to pray for those people, that God will shine the light of truth into their hearts.

Scotty PGH:
You’re right. I meant to say “highest concentration.” And no, from what I could tell, there were about five regular posters, all of whom were Admins or Moderators. All of whom were also morons.
I noticed that the “moderators” (free speech, Faith and logic inhibators would be more accurate) kicked the Catholics off when the Catholics outnumbered the “5” regular posters over there. They also banned us when our proof was solid and in the AKJV of Scripture and most of their bunk ( I mean theology) was easily shown to be man made, not in Scripture and false.

Example: Salvation is a “free gift from God”. This is not true at all as I proved to them in the AKJV. Of course they promptly deleted my post. They also do not like definitions from the dictionary when it proves we use the word correctly and they do not. It also proves we can use the same word but with different meanings too.

What did I learn over there? “If you can’t prove your faith in the AKJV, then just ban those who disagree and delete their posts when they shine light into your darkness.” Big birds aren’t the only ones with thier heads in a dark hole.

I just had the honor of being banned over there 🙂 when I gave them Biblical proofs that they were acting exactly like the Pharisees that Jesus condemned. I guess truth hurts! But I did get a word of forgiveness out to MaricoG. She seems to be very bitter towards the Church. I pray that the Lord will show her the way of forgiveness.

Do the Lutherans believe in the Holy Trinity? Why can’t they believe in the Sacred tradition of the Church? They always say that the Bible is the only truth and thse traditions are all fallible. So that means that they should also believe that the Trinity if fallible coz there is no such thing as Trinity in the Bible?

I was able to read some posts there just now. The site didn’t recognize me as banned. I’m sure if I tried to post and put in my information it would. Anyway, an interesting question from one Catholic is “How old were you when you left the Church?” Here’s Marico’s answer:
I was excommunicated when I was 19 for marrying out of the RCC! Much later…I left after reading the Bible.
Philena- Marico seems very confused. This person told me that they had been a victim of abuse by a priest and that’s why she left. I wish I could still post there. It doesn’t make sense to be both “excommunicated” and then to leave the Church “after reading the Bible…much later.”

After more questions from “agape”, Marico responds
The man had been married before for 19 days prior to my meeting him, and it had been annulled. The RCC said he had been married, did not matter that it was annulled. LOL They would not recognise the marriage… So when I divorced him, to get right with the Church again, they still refused me, unless I paid a large amount of money to be sure I had not actually been married to him!
Prayers for Marico are a good idea. In fact, prayers for her whole family are a good idea. She once told me that her mother is a devout Catholic and she has a brother in the seminary.

When I read those responses from Marico they simply made no sense. What she said was not Church law or Church practice.

I smell something “funny” here. I suspect that some of the people who have supposedly left the Church, have done so for reasons other than the reasons they give now.

It is interesting how many ex-Catholics or embittered Catholics, when questioned, end up telling you that they are living in some sort of marriage arrangement that the Church does not accept. They then blame the Church for its hardness and find all sorts of other reasons for criticising it. Too many people blame the Church for their own mistakes and the consequences of their own personal choices. After all Martin Luther ended up living with a woman in defiance of his monastic vow.

Ok, I’m done there at the “former Catholic” board. Those people are - yuck! I hestitate to say they are evil, but I was starting to get the feeling that I was wading through a toxic waste dump posting there.

I’m astounded that they can claim to be Christian yet show no tolerance to anyone outside of their little clique. The constant mocking of our Holy Church and Mary finally got to be more than I could stand.

Ick. Don’t go there unless you have a strong stomach.
Mat 10:12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.
Mat 10:13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
Mat 10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
Mat 10:15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

You just can’t reason with soul-sick people like that. Say a prayer for them and move on.

The people on that site are truly evil. I think you’ve made the right decision. Those people don’t need just our prayers, that site needs an exorcism. http://bestsmileys.com/religous/1.gif

i leave that site too. I cannot argue to someone who don’t even believe in history and agree with their responses from the bible about evils because what they are saying are contrary to what they are doing.

I think these former catholics leave the church for some morality issues. Because the CC cannot let them live in immorality and only in the non catholic church can do such immoralities.

Here’s the irony. If you research the history of KJ Version of the Bible you wind up - yep – with Catholic Tradition!

Shhhhhhhhhh… don’t tell them… we wouldn’t want to spoil their fun…

Just pray for them.
Blessings,
Joanie

Joanie, we have told them. They don’t believe it. They bend over backwards with illogical and inconsistent theories about how the Bible was brought together. They’ll say stuff like “Sheesh! Everyone knew what books belonged in the Bible until the RCC decided to add books to the Bible!”

These are not the most intellectual people in the world, to put it mildly.

Would a KJV 1611 (or any other edition) onlyist agree with Jesus that we should act in such a way so that we are worshipped?

As it is written in Luke14:8-10:
Hi Asteroid,
The word “worship” originally meant “respect” or “honor”. To this day, in British courts, they address the judge as “Your Worship” rather than “Your Honor” because they mean the same thing.

In modern English, especially American English, the word “worship” has come to mean the same as “Latria” (the adoration owed to God alone) but it was not always so.

God love you,
Paul

I pray that they were being sarcastic…but…

AB posted that the People on that board are using (I am hesitant to call them Christians) argumentum ad hominem.

To which glorybe429, a moderator, posted-

ah! another cult term

AB later asked

“Would E Pluribus Unum be a cultic term as well?”

glorybe429 responded

" do YOU use it in praying to or worshipping your false christ?"

ROFL! I am praying from the depths of my soul that was sarcasim.

I understand completely! I once had a very nice black man tell me “If the King James Verion of the Bible was good enough for Jesus it was good enough for him.”

Oh-vey!

If you look at the converts from Elizabeth Ann Seton to Scott Hahn (by the way, the start of Scott Hahn’s conversion began when he read the book THE HISTORY OF THE BIBLE… ummmm…) to G.K. Chesterson – you’ll see a pattern — they are spiritual intellectuals.

Not just meaning they are smart, but they were open to what the Holy Spirit had to offer them.

The only common denominator held by they Protestants is that the DON’T WANT TO BE TOO CAT-LICK…

Blessings,
Joanie
