Last night at church, the Pastor of the church we attend started talking about eschatology and his belief on the pre-trib rapture. One of the things he used to back up his claim was an early writing by Ephrem the Syrian “For all the saints and elect of God are gathered, prior to the tribulation that is to come, and are taken to the Lord lest they see the confusion that is to overwhelm the world because of our sins.” He also used the old Jewish customs of marriage as a revelation. That as we are the bride of Christ that, in the days of Moses, a bride was bought at a price (Christ’s price paid for us), that around midnight the groom would snatch his bride and take her to the bridal room and they would stay there for 7 days (rapture), and then after the 7 days they would reunite with everyone for the dinner celebration (The Celebration). He even went on to say that there are many other “valid opinions, however those opinions are wrong”. He also went on o say that at Sunday’s service he will put a name on the Anit-Christ, and a time where is he 100% convinced of the time of this “pre-trib rapture”. Needless to say, I felt pretty disturbed and aggravated after this service.:dts:
Don’t these Scriptures plainly say that the gathering of the elect will be **after great tribulation?
**
The whole time during this service, 2 Thessalonians 2: 1-4 was in my mind.

If anyone has any information on the writing of Ephrem the Syrian on this topic, I would like to know. Thank you.

- 2 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
