I wonder if 400 years from now, Muslims will be seen as we see the catholic church as it was 400 years ago. Willing to kill everyone who does not follow their religion.

As my dad used to say “figures don’t lie but liers figure.”

Number of Native Americans Catholics killed in South America alone during the Inquisition: 16 Million.

Go figure that…
Were these people killed BY the Inquisition? Or by greedy land grabbing conquistadors? Personally I think the latter…

According to recent findings in the Vatican archives the amount of people actually executed in during the time of the Inquisition was closer to eight hundred individuals, a far cry from the hundred and fifty million or other such ridiculous numbers spouted by pagans and protestants.

Not to mention diseases for which they had no immunity. The Church didn’t do that. Very often, the Church tried to protect the native people from those who would exploit or harm them.

And regardless of the spotted history, at the very least, the light of the Gospels was brought to this hemisphere.

Precisely, just as the Black Death came from central Asia, apparently from the Mongolian Marmot, the Europeans brought native diseases to the New World, if someone wants the Church to apologise for disease I want an apology from all of Central Asia for the horrible blight they brought down upon us.

It is very true that evil people did horrible things in the name of the church. But lets not forget the the main topic of this post… Whether you want it or not, the church was stained by the blood of many innocent people in 400 years ago. +±

Also, lets not forget the main reason for America being colonized was to get souls for the church. Which indirectly caused the death of millions of native americans.

Why would a God bring such a destruction to a so many people? Why would God want people who had lived in harmony for thousands of years to be destroyed and be swalowed by the greed of europeans?

Not by the Church.

Are you kidding me? Who can you say the church has not killed millions of people? The crusades along killed over 2 million. The colonization of America in the name of God… or was it Gold? Whether you want it or not, europeans destroyed entire civilizations in the name of their GOD.

It was Gold…and whether you want it or not, Europeans are not the Church. As we have already said, some Europeans were to blame for quite a lot of bad things in the past, they did not represent the Holy and Apostolic Catholic Church, despite their beliefs on the matter.

People in the Church have done terrible things, certainly. The Church HERSELF, however, is impeccable, by Christ’s Own promise His spotless Bride. We have to distinguish between the two.

I always wonder if I can get an apology and reparations for what my Norman ancestors did to my Saxon ancestors. Of course, that boils down to me suing myself. I wonder if I can find a lawyer?

Well said 🙂

Don’t forget the Romans, they did a fair bit of invading and plundering 2000 years back. I wonder if I can trace a good Iceni lawyer to fight my case against Rome?

So… why would God want to be represented by such evil people on Earth? It looks to me that people just use God as a way to excuse their own evils.

Europe is not the Church. Watching Apocalypto may help you begin to get a glimpse of some other factors. Study the history of the Society of Jesus to see how the Church tried to stop the barbarity. Who began the Crusades? I don’t ask because I don’t know. I ask because I’m not sure that you know.

Europe is not the Church, The Catholic Church never advocated slavery, genocide or anything else that has been tacked onto it and on numerous occasions slavers were commanded by the Church to release and pay reparations to the slaves. If people refused to listen, that is their failing, not the Church’s.

juancpath,

Is your point something like this: “We ought not to blame Islam for all of the excesses of some Muslims anymore than we ought to blame the Church for some of the excesses of some Catholics?” If so, I tend to agree, with some exceptions.

Humm… Maybe your view of the church is pretty vague… let me ask you something … is the Pope who allowed the inquisition to go on part of the church? That is what i love about catholics… they turn away from anything that stains their own religion.
