**Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) – **A new Gallup poll finds just 28 percent of Americans take a pro-abortion position on the question of when abortions should be allowed. Another 71 percent of Americans either want all abortions to be illegal or want them limited to certain rare circumstances.

It’s too bad that those percentages aren’t reflected in how we elect people into office.

71% of Americans might say they want all abortion to be illegal or limited to certain rare circumstances, but they vote quite the opposite to that thinking.

The proof is in the pudding as they say. The proof is that we have not been willing as a society to end abortion. People might say that it’s a radical few that have made it the tragedy that it is. That might have been true at one time, but is that really the truth in today’s America?

I keep hearing about the “silent majority” of pro-lifers. Why are they so silent? If we were such a majority, this issue would be dealt with in our society.

But because not enough of us care about the issue strongly enough, the abortion tragedy continues.

I think Lifenews has chosen a title for its article that will mislead most readers about what it known about American opinions on the abortion issue. Either that, or I have no idea what being pro-abortion means, which is possible. I generally do not restrict that term to favoring abortion being legal in *all *circumstances. I’d still call a number of people who would offer some restrictions to be pro-abortion. But that 28% is only the people who favor it being legal in all circumstances. Depending on what circumstances you have in mind, the 28% goes up to 41%, according the data on the Gallup site. Here is a clip that refuses to stay formatted. You can still read what percentage is which, though.

Also, where does Lifenews get the 71% in combination with the word “rare” instead of in combination only with the word “certain”? Certain circumstances is not the same as certain rare circumstances, not at all.

There is a fair stretch between being pro-abortion and being pro-choice. There are many pro-choice people who would never consider having an abortion, but we live in a society where a large chunk of the populous does not want to impose their values on anyone else.

I agree with these observations. Also, a lot depends on the question asked.
 
It looks like 41% are actually what I would call pro-choicers and 56% pro-lifers, which is close. If only we could just directly vote on the issue.

This is obviously a distortion of the numbers:

The phrasing isn’t “limited to rare circumstances” it’s “legal under *certain *circumstances”

Check your facts and be careful with your wording in the future, imo.
