Thanks for this. I can see the pointlessness of continuing any kind of discourse with you. It would be like conversing with a caveman. When you reach the intellectual and emotional capacity of an adult, we can talk again. Goodbye.
ever dismissive. i simply asked for what specifically is incorrect about that page and the numerous videos that documented the paper trail of zoe. but no, like a lot of anti-gamergate people you go off with the juvenile name calling exalting yourselves in such a holier-then-thou way. how stubborn can you be to state your opinion, then to bail out and leave when its questioned

i think it’s not unreasonable to ask what is wrong with this or that. now i am questioning your opinion here; to simply state it and leave, will in no way shape or form convince me of a single thing except for my lowered opinion of those who stand against gamergate.

I love you
Harvard-- have you found a single source you can trust? Or have you come to the conclusion that you have to read from a lot of sources and be critical/skeptical with all of them?
I’m of the theory that nobody really researches ‘honestly’ in a sense that they’ll always look for the facts that support their claims. But then again, perhaps really the best thing in this whole Gamergate mess is to be honest about why everyone wants to support ‘their side.’

I for one just like to play what I want to play. Like what I see and shamelessly relish in the supposedly ‘sexist’ and ‘liberal’ eye-candy. 🤷

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to figure out how to squeeze $77 dollars into my monthly budget because I just helped my bruh buy a 3DS and its Monster Hunter port. :compcoff:

Yeah, it seems like there are folks trying to change what they think the culture is vice what the culture actually is. (kind of like folks who decry the ‘gun culture’ and seem to think it’s a bunch of bloodthirsty paranoid yahoos looking for an excuse to kill). My kid plays a lot of games and wants to be a developer, he’s mostly into the cooperative engagement type games - and doesn’t do racing games, just never appealed to him. Really excited he got in on the limited beta for EVOLVE which is a game he saw and played at Comic-Con, he instinctively picked it up and was so good the developers asked him to play matches projected on the big screen for the attendees as developer commented on it. Good networking opportunity. Anyway, my kid and his friends are constantly on line gaming and talking smack and just socializing (the way I played pick-up football/baseball games as a kid). Gaming doesn’t influence his opinion of women…

What influences their opinion is the women in the real world who’ve walked out on/or torn apart their families. Or vindictively try to keep them from seeing their fathers. Or insist they should have the right to kill their kid in the womb. Who insist that men adhere to some kind of code of conduct and chivalry with no similar obligations/responsibilties regarding their conduct. Changing what’s in computer games isn’t going to change their perception of women in the real world.

The last video game I played was “Doom”. After reading this thread I am glad I am no longer play!

Well put. This all started when it was discovered that a game reviewer and a game maker were sharing the same bed. Fornication in actuality while incestuous figuratively. Well, the high-priestesses in the Church of the Immediate Wants of the Crotch didn’t like the calling out and are trying to make the subject anything else, however flimsy.

If you never played DOOM II, you missed out. Great game, unlike a lot of the modern games it had that great save at any point feature, so if anything came up it was quite easy to just walk away from the computer and come back later.

I don’t game much, but really do like the graphics- very impressive. Have you ever checked out the “Assassins Creed” games? Enormous amount of effort in getting the historical details correct-- very interesting talking to the developers on how they do the research, pick the characters they’ll center the game events around.

Well thanks for putting the anti-gamergate position so clearly- Agree with me or your an ignorant sexist pig.

I watched my daughter play it-we was leaping from ledges to strangle people without getting caught.

I recall one called Nuke E Dukem or something like that. Every time he passed a mirror he look into it and say “looking good, Duke”.

I played one of the Assassins’ Creed games, but the Dan-Brownesque story I found to be highly silly.

Shadows of Mordor is a recent release that emulates the AC fighting system and you can never get tired of decapitating orcs. 😃

That’s because he made it quite clear he’s an ignorant, sexist, pig.

Wow…just wow, this is messed up. Who needs to show how screwed-up gamergate is when there are people like this trying to defend it?

But it’s more of a challenge to try to beat a level from start to finish without retrying. 😦

The Official maps of Doom 2 were horrid, but thankfully, there are tons of great PWads. Still looking for new interesting ones to play from time to time.

So, let me get this straight…

You seriously think that those young gamers who have had their lives wrecked by women who buy into modern liberal feminism should not have the perspective they currently do about modern liberal feminism?

It appears that his position is more about defending AGAINST a toxic world view, one with a very extensive, first hand casualty roll very close to where he lives, rather than defending any actual world view. Perhaps you are reading into his words your own venom?

I do agree with oldcatholicguy that you are doing a far more credible job “showing” the world view you represent, than what you do by “telling” anyone about it.

I really think this is where both sides tend to show their worst and not only that, they attract the worst of the American culture war. (Same ‘war’ which I, being more of a globalized consumer, find ridiculously overblown and irrelevant.)

This whole scandal is unjustly trying to redefine what is too diverse a medium to define. That goes for the Republican commentators (who previously demeaned the gamer culture as full of ignorant, fat, basement-dwelling social rejects) and the feminists who keep nagging about sexism in videogames.

This leads me to write this little open letter to any involved and think themselves highly for getting involved:

*Dear American Right and American Left,

The gaming industry does not and should not care about your politics, your views, or your religion/irrelegion. It is nothing more than a mass medium full of tools, engines, and creative concepts being used by people who make a decision to produce.

It is just like any other industry such as the automobile, financial, and healthcare. It is used by everyone and consumed by everyone.

The good news is that this everyone includes you. You should be free to create and enjoy games that align with your tastes, preferences, and world views. That should not mean your brand should stand to be the only benchmark to which everyone must meet/buy in order to be part of the industry. You don’t tell me to stop calling myself a fast food joint just because I’m no McDonald’s or have the same political agenda as Chick-Fil-A. (Ironically, both already fall under the category of fast-food franchises anyway.)

Sincerely,

A Gamer*

However, it is important to note that gaming companies should be held to SOME standard, and that includes gaming journalist companies. While I admit that gaming journalism isn’t the best journalism (it’s horrible), and there are other areas that should be addressed (refusing to allow magazines to rate their game unless they rate it above a certain number, and kickbacks for ratings), it’s worth noting that this is a serious problem and one that hasn’t cropped up recently.

Now I feel very bad for the lady in the middle of this, she’s become the focus, when really the issue isn’t about her, not in any way. I’ve read about her and her games and I have no desire to play them, but I don’t think she deserves to be threatened or publicly humiliated. On the other hand, her behavior was reprehensible, and when she was called out on it, she made a lot of excuses instead of admitting she did something wrong, which is I suspect why people reacted so harshly, because making excuses for bad behavior is generally something people hate more than bad behavior.

And I’m not going to talk about the reaction of the internet anonymous, so many of them acted in ways that were completely irresponsible and abhorrent; they are problematic in many ways, but really we should not expect better from them. Because acting like idiots is their standard.

That’s because he made it quite clear he’s an ignorant, sexist, pig.
I, must, be, a, grammar, Nazi, because, the, only, thing, I, see, in, your, above, is, the, horrible, usage, of, commas,.,

I’m not defending or opposing anything. I’m not familiar enough to do so, I’m pointing out a simple fact:

People base their opinions on their own experiences, children of divorce do not assess their parents by their words, what they say they believe or what people should do. Why would they? They’ve seen the most fundamental vow, which should be life long, broken.

Their opinion isn’t based on video games— it’s based on the actions of people in the real world. In fact, some choose video games to escape from that reality, to one where there is an illusion that people-- both men and women-- should hold to a standard of behavior and uphold vows and ideals. Something experience has shown them to be, in large part, a fantasy.

I think this is precisely why Lost Wanderer has missed the point in his open “letter.”

He thinks it IS about restrictive standards, I am quite sure he is mistaken about that.

The argument for standards is not a difficult one to make. We wouldn’t accept pollution or destruction of the physical environment that we all share for the sake of just allowing companies to do what they will with technologies, tools and creative ideas. Why, then, would we accept pollution and destruction of society or of our ideological world merely to allow those with tools, technologies and creative ideas to do as they will? We shouldn’t.

But THAT is NOT what THIS is about!

The issue surrounding gamergate is more subtle than that and John C. Wright, for one, has clearly explicated this issue because it has affected the the Science-Fiction genre of writing which he knows so well AND he has seen the results.

The issue is not merely that some are putting out their possibly objectionable ideas or technologies, etc. into the gaming world, but that they have attempted to manipulate and control the very means by which those ideas and technologies are introduced into the gaming world (as well as other aspects of the social order) such that it is only the ideas and mores which agree with their own that get introduced - thus inflicting a particular point of view as the determinably “correct” one. This is what the “gamers” have found objectionable - they have been told what to like by those who have subtly been attempting to mould their minds by dictating to them what their tastes ought to be.

This is not occurring only in the gaming industry, but in all social media and in the media, generally, including news. Those who have a particular mindset - liberal progressivism - are, by controlling strategic points in the delivery system, dictating what we see, hear, and are told in order to mould the future of society. It isn’t the free market of ideas any longer - it is manipulation of the market itself by determining what is “allowed” to enter that market by manipulating the positions of those who have the power to make a difference.

Don’t think it’s happening?

Oh please, you put a coal plant owner across a hippie and you’re going to get a lot of people redefining what counts as ‘pollution’ throwing rocks over the table. Gaming is going to suffer the same debate. Whatever standards you’re going to argue for is really as loose as desert sand.

This goes to show that the one missing points is you.

Personally I’d just ask this guy how many video games has he played and for how long. If I get so much as a few seconds of awkward silence, you’ve just proven my point with what’s really wrong with the Gamergate scandal. Political culture warriors, who themselves have never even touched a video game, are highjacking this movement and steering everyone towards silly topics that I as a gamer do not care for.
This is what the “gamers” have found objectionable - they have been told what to like by those who have subtly been attempting to mould their minds by dictating to them what their tastes ought to be.
Because of what? A couple of game reviews that not every single gamer is even required to read and take at face value?

You know what’s the best sort of game journalism? The one where you’re actually playing a game and keep playing it regardless of what either feminists or Jack Thompson are saying.

Honestly, the fact that you’re dragging in Obama and crying out more liberal media conspiracy only demonstrates my real point. Culture warriors are making this debate no longer about video games and more about their political drama, agenda, and cheap attempt to curry voters.
