If you’re basically in good health, the Nourishing Traditions Cookbook outlines in detail the best cooking methods I’ve seen for any family. The GAPS author (and doctor) explains that our goal should be to make that way of cooking our habit for a lifetime.

The GAPS diet is for people who have symptoms of a damaged gut that needs to heal. If you do, you may not be able to digest many foods well, even healthy ones. What you’re body can’t digest actually does harm to the body (which is all explained in the Gut and Psychology book). Most people who do the diet need about a year or two to heal and can then follow the Nourishing Traditions style of cooking.

This page can help you determine if you may want to consider the GAPS diet: products.mercola.com/gaps-diet/.

Otherwise the Nourishing Traditions style (as recommended by Weston Price) may be what many are looking for in order to learn the basics of nutrient dense cooking, to enable us to be our best selves that God created us to be!

I just now saw your post, “three cats.” Good for you for caring enough about your family to go through all the work it takes to help them heal. You are an inspiration!

Kelly, I’m with you. So much of the food in the stores today could be labeled “hazardous to your health.” Oh, but Monsanto has made sure to keep the public in the dark, refusing to allow GMO foods to be labeled as such. If you don’t believe that GMO foods are hazardous to our health, just watch this video: geneticroulettemovie.com/.-]/-] And that’s just one of so many ways big business and factory farms have damaged our foods.

This is the banned one I’m referring to. The others you mention don’t have very high post counts either, but they have enough posts and enough time elapsed since their join date to safely dispel the notion that they’re some sort of shills.

I’m a devout Catholic who happens to be new to this site. I don’t understand why I would be banned. What kind of a Christian welcome is that!?

What is a shrill and why am I being called on for only posting 21 times?

What is this about? We cannot make a comment to a post without ir turning into some issue?

Oops! I guess not. A couple of days ago your username appeared in such a way (at least for me) that your user status was completely missing and in my experience that always meant the person was actually banned. It appears normally for me now though. Sorry about the misunderstanding. CAF still has some bugs to work out on that front.

It doesn’t look like anyone else who has replied has actually done the GAPS diet. I and my family have. It’s no fad, but an honest way to heal the body from the damage we’ve done by eating processed, genetically modified, pesticide laden, etc. foods, while breathing and drinking polluted air and water, along with taking in plenty of other toxins. In other words, we’ve greatly damaged so much of what God has given us, and our bodies are suffering the consequences. Notice how much more prevalent autism, allergies, mental illnesses, cancer, all kinds of diseases, etc. are today?

Anyway, I’ve seen amazing results by following this way of eating that allows the body to heal. It takes us back to how most traditional cultures of people used to eat, including fermented foods (to balance our gut bacteria - which effects all areas of our health), bone and meat broths, in which we use all the parts of the animal, drawing minerals from bones to heal our guts, and eliminating starchy foods (until the gut heals).

In our family (of 7) alone, we’ve been healed of depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, chronic headaches, severe eczema, ADD, night terrors, Raynaud’s disease and are in the process of healing celiac disease. Many of our friends have seen incredible results, too. So you think it sounds too good to be true? God says that with faith, all things are possible.

I discovered this diet when I was at the lowest point of my life, about 4 years ago. My fourth daughter was 18 months and barely slept. She wanted to be consoled around the clock as she suffered from severe reflux (including vomiting), eczema, hive breakouts, and extreme underweight. It also appeared that her brain was not functioning properly, as she did not focus, play, or communicate. One night, in tears, as my body ached from lack of sleep and holding her, I went online. I prayed God would tell me what to do, as the doctors only continued giving her medications that only seemed to compound her problems.

On the first page I opened, someone else had described some similar symptoms to my daughter’s, and a mom had replied, “try the GAPS diet.” Within only a week of following the diet, my daughter was sleeping through the night and even taking a daytime nap. Her hive breakouts were gone and she seemed to have no more symptoms of reflux. Within a month, she was happily playing and talking, with no more signs of eczema. After two months, she had shot up and out of 2 clothing sizes while showing that her hair had a growth spurt, too. By the time she was 2, she had no signs of all that she had previously been suffering, and had gained a great appetite for a wide range of healthy, healing foods.

So before you dismiss the GAPS (or the SCD diet which the GAPS diet stems from), you may want to see what it can do for you or your family members. I, for one, am overjoyed that I did.

👍👍😃

That’s ok, Exoflare. Looks like I goofed, too.

Sorry, I misunderstood your first responding message, reading it too fast, and thinking you were saying GAPS was only a fad. Now I see that’s not at all what you were saying.

Thanks, Megan, for the big thumbs up!

To all the “low # posters”, just in case you are feeling unwelcome now – I appreciate your (name removed by moderator)ut and hope you will continue to contribute whenever you’d like :).

I really think that rather than trying a diet plan we all just need to focus on getting a healthy variety of foods. A moderate amount of everything will ensure that we are neither malnourished nor bored. Don’t be afraid to eat cooked or pasteurized things. A lot of people died from food-related illnesses before pasteurization. Plus, it is hardly new. The Chinese have been doing it with wine since the 1100’s.

A lot of times when people decide to follow a certain diet plan they just end up rejecting it because it feels too restrictive. Rather than restricting yourself from certain foods, aim to have more of the healthier stuff and still treat yourself to the chocolate and cheeseburgers on an occasional basis.
