I actually don’t think that’s the point. No one in this thread has argued or even implied that TWOTEF is appropriate for Mass.i dont mind it, but its simply not suitable for mass. thats his point.

I don’t think it made it on the top 40 charts in any one week, partly maybe because of its 5-minute some length. But it was on one of Lightfoot’s albums. I guess you have to hear it several times over a period of time before you can make the connection between some of its musical notations and chords with that of GUI. I wouldn’t have figured it out by myself either.I was big into folk music in the 60s and early 70s, but I had never heard “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” although I did know that it was a Lightfoot song.
Not really. More likely I’m just going to stop posting in the liturgy and sacraments section of the forum. If catholics around me had behaved so this way when I was first looking at the church, I would probably not be a christian today.do you realize you have just ruined liturgical music for a whole new generation?![]()
Is that the “enter the song” verse?Verse 4 of “Gather Us In” has been removed from the new GIA Worship 3 hymnal, on order from the Archbishop of Chicago.
Problem one - we receive, not take, Communion. Here we will take the wine and the water
New birth is not a theologically correct description of Communion at all.here we will take the bread of new birth
This part is ok.here you shall call your sons and your daughters
call us anew to be salt of the earth.
HILARIOUS!!Gather Us In
Here in this place, a bad song is starting,
Now will the altar turn into a stage.
All that is holy is slowly departing,
Making a way for the coming New Age.
Gather us in, for we are like captives.
Skipping the Mass, that would be wrong.
But Lord hear our plea, regarding M. Haugen:
Give him the courage to put down that bong.
Dear Father Smith make a beeline procession,
Run if you have to, make it real terse.
If you can start this Mass very quickly,
Maybe we’ll only have to sing one verse.
The Church teaches that the mass is the connection between heaven and earth, in mass we are in union, so we are experiencing part of heaven in mass, it is not someplace distance.“Not in some heaven, light years away” is Church teaching?!
Accept (accipere) actually, but songs work by whatever syllables work so not to expect theological precision from a song fitting a popular tune.Problem one - we receive, not take, Communion.
Since most of us won’t get to see the new hymnals for a few months, can you give us a run-down on the music in Breaking Bread - especially the Mass settings? My parish uses that one too. This past week I have had the 2012 issue of Breaking Bread (Oregon Catholic Press) on my desk, examining each hymn. I am only about a third of the way through, but at least twenty songs I have X’d out for containing heretical or dangerously ambiguous lyrics. About half of those remaining have been flagged for vague or overly-narcissistic theology or for unusually difficult or awkward melodies. Most of the problems have been with communion hymns which refer to the people transsubstantiating into Christ, or Christ turning into bread and wine. Zion’s Harp, the hymnal of the Christian Apostolic Church, has far more respectful communion hymns, and as far as I know, they consider communion as strictly symbolic (though they prepare for weeks to receive it). Their hymns are in common-sense, 4/4 or 3/4 time and are completely singable, whereas a great number of contemporary Catholic hymns are essentially solo pieces. Is it any wonder that so many Catholics have given up singing?
Er, what?…There’s the famous sheep-less Agnus Dei…
Jesus, Prince of Peace - have Mercy on usEr, what?
Ah. Got it. The Lamb of God has been replaced. I guess in the spirit of “everything can be improved upon.”Jesus, Prince of Peace - have Mercy on us
Jesus, Bread of Life - have Mercy on us
Jesus, Bearer of Love - grant us peace.
(And other variations of same). No Agnus in sight (sheep-less).
There’s an Advent version too which uses the titles from O Come, O Come Emanuel (rod of Jesse, Key of David, etc.) Still sheep-less.![]()

I suppose your are speaking of that we “become what we recieve”. Thelogically and doctrinally this is correct. For the minutes after we recieve, we are fill with Christ. We are to become waht we recieve, we are recieving Christ, it is every Catholic in thier live is called to strive to be like Christ, even though we fall far short.
