Vermeulen has said that he will be speaking further with the priest, the parish council, and others. “This story does not make me happy at all,” he said. “I was raised as a Catholic. I was baptised and I was confirmed. My grandfather and grandmother find the affair terrible.”

It’s too bad his grandparents don’t find his homosexual affair terrible. Bravo to the priest for affirming Church teaching! It is going to take a lot of bravery over the next years.

Can. 915 Those upon whom the penalty of excommunication or interdict has been imposed or declared, and others who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin, are not to be admitted to holy communion.

Can. 916 Anyone who is conscious of grave sin may not celebrate Mass or receive the Body of the Lord without previously having been to sacramental confession, unless there is a grave reason and there is no opportunity to confess; in this case the person is to remember the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition, which includes the resolve to go to confession as soon as possible.

I believe 915 applies… obstinantly persist in manifest grave sin.

Are priests supposed to deny people Communion on their own initiative? I thought that was up to Bishops.

If the priest knows that someone is in the state of mortal sin and/or not a baptized Catholic, he is supposed to deny Communion. As an EMHC, I have denied communion, but only when the person was completely confused about how to receive (neither tongue nor hands out…blank stare).

How is this all of a sudden "news"to these homosexuals and their relations.The Church has been quite open about refusing The Sacrament to those who persist in sin.This is just another opportunity to scream foul to the news media and have a bunch of stand-for-anything-know-nothings slag the Church and the clergy for protecting the sodomite from further compounding the mortality of his sin by receiving our Lord unworthily:

27Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.

His parents and grandparents should be ashamed of themselves for not supporting this good priest.Any bet the whole lot of them are CINO’s

I believe that we have to look at the positive side here.

• The priest called the young man in and they spoke.
• The young man did not approach for communion.
• The young man has not bad-mouthed the Church.
• The priest and the young man are both interested in continuing their dialogue.

There is a lot of good happening here. Let’s pray that more good happens.
