Only if it was a sappy religious drama, which is a shame because I’d love to see someone like me in a story I’d like. But of course, not even straight characters on tv share my values, so I doubt it’ll ever happen.

I’m sure Fr Coleman who confirmed Nicole at age 12 and also presided over her nuptials with Keith would’ve advised her of the proper processes.

Tom and Nicole divorced 2001, she and Keith married in 2006. Plenty of time in between for her to seek an anulment.

Except that TV doesn’t really normalize anything except entertain people about sexuality minus the unforeseen consequences of what could happen.

Also, I noticed the use of GLBTQ in the prior post. Not all GLBTQ persons are active in homosexuality. Think a show about a GLBTQ person living the Catholic Faith would fly?

It would be interesting to see if that ever appears. We’ve certainly seen shows about priests and nuns.

Agreed. I recall a recent interview that Nicole Kidman did where she said her Catholic faith is a huge part of her life and is a deciding factor in what roles she accepts. Watching some of her movies it might raise eyebrows and cause people to wonder “is that really what Catholicism accepts/condones?”.

It’s not fair on the person in the spotlight but their comments are often misconstrued and add to the confusion regarding the Church especially in those who could not be bothered researching what the Church really teaches.

Celebrities are human like everyone else but they are purposely put in the public spotlight. If an actress accepts a role where she is asked to model bad and immoral behavior then she is not a good role model and is sending the wrong message. I would say such criticism is fair. The Hollywood trade tells of actresses that have turned down roles for various reasons, including being asked to appear nude or partly nude or for other reasons. One quit Hollywood. In the past, one compromise was using a “body double” for certain scenes so the viewer would think it’s her but it’s not, just someone with the same figure and hairstyle, usually from the back.

Maybe? Probably. I mean, subject to artistic licence. I’m sure a story about a** mild-mannered ornithologist **deserves to have their story told, but if it’s not interesting or compelling, it won’t be. TV is a business, after all.

They were supposedly hinting at it in the epsiode that wasn’t that good, called The Bear King.

It disgusts me. They don’t NEED to have more homosexuality in shows. I think it’ll just get a lot worse since hollywierd seems to think the june 26 decision gave them permission to push it even more.

This stuff really bugs me… the implication that no one can love someone of the same sex without being sexually attracted to them… it’s appalling and it’s horribly narrow. It also feeds into the false idea that anyone who would say that this is narrow must therefore be against the idea of “two people loving each other…” it just never ends.

Showing gay characters is one thing, but glorifying the openly gay lifestyle is another, especially when they convey casual sex encounters as common. If this is shown enough on TV shows, commercials, movies, the more people will become used to the idea and eventually it wont be taboo at all…this ‘tactic’ can also be used for agendas, not just LGBT lifestyles, at some point, it will probably be used in attempt to ‘normalize’ pedophilia’ to some degree, it really is already happening, Ive seen quite a few shows/ movies that depict a middle aged man having a sexual encounter (or desiring such a thing), with a 16-17 yr old female, this isnt really pedophilia, but it ‘breaks the ice’ and paves the way later on for acceptable ‘trysts’ with younger people. A common theme is “whats age got to do with anything, we are just out to have a good time”.

I think Hollywood tries to convey what they think a ‘normal’ lifestyle should be, it is accomplished by showing character reactions to such things, their emotions, etc, they know how to spin it, so people come to think its all normal, in the 90s, they tried the same thing, but in attempts to depict strong single women, in otherwise normally male jobs, like cops, detectives, judges, etc, but if you looked at real life, there were not many females like this out there…its just something Hollywood (or someone above them) wanted to become normal.
