Not all Catholics, just some of you on this thread. This is what I’m specifically objecting to:

I cannot imagine John Wayne walking into the tavern, grabbing a few shots, and then walking over to the piano player and asking him “Who does you hair” or “Let’s head over to my place and i’ll pour us some wine and we can lay by the fire on my bearskin rug”.

Is how the CC says to act towards gay people? I don’t think so!
Obviously you have no idea what I was even trying to get across with that. First, I have never, EVER heard of a movie about gay cowboys. Therefore, it was very surprising when I heard of this one. Secondly, when I thought of cowboys, I immediatley thought of John Wayne. I then wondered if I could see him in a movie playing a gay cowboy. No I could not.

Maybe the “gay community” should stop doing shows like “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”. So they can talk to each other and the entire country about how Kyle’s hair looks so nice and all that, but the minute the heterosexual community says anything, we become closeminded and bigots.

And the problem is, the gay community DO make their voices heard EVERYWHERE. They stereotype themselves. But when we actually do give an accurate portrayal, shame on us.

Give us a break. As far as the CC is concerned, get with program or get out.

Gosh you sound so much like Jesus, I can hardly tell the difference.

Do you actually have a point or something to contribute? All you have done is criticize. When you have an actual question or some type of discussion starter, post it. Everyone will be glad to discuss with you, including myself, in a civilized way.

I love my neighbor as I love myself. Because I love myself and I do not want to burn in Hell, I try not to sin. I try not to partake in activities that I know can end up sending me to Hell. One thing that can send you to Hell is acting upon homosexual urges. Also if you act upon heterosexual urges outside of marriage. I love my neighbors enough to say their actions can comdemn them. Should they choose not to listen, I can’t help that. I just do not want to see them in an eternal state of misery.

It all relates: I love myself and I love myself enough not to want to suffer eternal damnation, and I love others enough to inform them.

Just because I hate homosexuality, I do not hate homosexuals. If you are gonna make claims that we don’t love our neighbors, back it up. Your little bit of strawman rhetoric isn’t holding up very well.

Catholics. You make this world go round.

What jees no. I ment it in a more complimenting manner, sorry if it came across like that.

Amen! I saw a trailer of it also.
Let it also be said here that I find any kind of gratuitous and blatant sex and violence offensive.
Garbage in, garbage out. Our minds become polluted with what our eyes and ears take in.
There is much I have seen and heard in my life that I wish now that I hadn’t. Even after you commit to making your life over to please God, the nastiness sticks in your brain forever.
And you know what there were some scenes in Schindler’s List that were totally unnecessary, like the sex scene! Not to say the movie was not good, but I think that any movies with sexual content in them is morally obscene. The Schindler’s List movie is no place for sex scenes.

Ok…well it is all good so long as we can all get along in a civil manner, but this goes for all of us.

I see where you are coming from, but say I was disagreeing with your views, now this would not be counted as getting along in a civil manner?

I just want to be able to discuss our views, even if they differ, in a civil manner. I do not mind someone disagreeing with my views. I have learned more from those with different views than those with similar ones.

I have not read all of this thread, but did read a review of the cowboy movie. It is aimed at “mature urban audiences” according to the reviewer.

Just to clarify, as I don’t believe this has been mentioned yet: Brokeback Mountain is based on a short story by Annie Proulx, written in 1998 I believe, first published in the New Yorker. This isn’t an original story concocted by Hollywood to further their agenda, though I understand why some people might think that.

I think I remember reading on the IMDB message boards that a politically conservative Catholic male is going to see this movie. That makes two of us, at least, since I’m going to see it as well.

I really didn’t have a *point *in posting this. I guess I just wanted to get a polite (I think?), dissenting opinion out there. Oh well!
