We’re already there. :o
The acceptance of marriage to parents with no intention of having kids weakened it. No fault divorce, nonsensical on it’s face, was a critical blow. After that it’s downfall is inevitable. Let’s not kid ourselves, Gay marriage. incestual marriage, polygamous marriage, etc. is just the final blow to a dying body in secular society.

Great.
How about we increase marriages by lowering the age of consent?
Yes, and that could easily happen. In some states the age of consent is already pretty low–as low as 13 or 14 with parental consent or judicial approval. Now, with same sex marriage and a lenient judge, it will be possible for an adult male to ‘marry’ an adolescent boy depending on the age of consent and the approvals needed. Pederast marriage might actually find the legal approval easier to obtain than polygamous marriage. But both will have strong claims to ‘marriage equality.’

We are diluting the definition of marriage to the point that it will eventually mean simultaneously - anything and nothing
That is exactly it. The concept no longer has any meaning, and consequently the concept of a mother or father has no meaning. Parents are ultimately reduced to caregivers. They have ultimately destroyed every claim to rights on the part of individuals because they have destroyed every individuals history by undermining the family.

Marriage will only stop meaning something to those who are still submerged in the pop culture. IT will not slow down those who value children and who practice Biblical Christianity.

Such statements are at best misinformed and misleading.

Besides the slippery slope fallacy can you offer any supportive reasoning or evidence that marriage “will eventually mean simultaneously - anything and nothing”

the slippery slope fallacy
The slippery slope fallacy only applies when there is no trajectory to support it, but there are snowballs that roll down hills. In this example, the definition of marriage that is supported by the natural law and seen in the vast majority of historical arrangements has several characteristics including one man, one woman, and permanent. Modernity has seen recent affronts to this marriage. Permanent was eliminated with divorce. The genders are being eliminated now. It is simply the observation of the trajectory that the idea of “two” will be eliminated (it’s already under scrutiny in many states). Other factors such as age and consent may well be further down the line. I would call the prediction much less a fallacy than a basic observation of trajectory.

No fault divorce decreased domestic violence and suicide among women. It also seems to not have any dramatic long term effect on divorce rates. I can’t see how it’s a bad thing.

*Gay civil unions and same-sex marriages are a “Trojan horse” that fundamentally weaken the institution of the family, a senior Catholic cardinal has warned, a month after the issue was raised by Pope Francis at a ground-breaking summit in the Vatican.

He’s entitled to his opinion, of course, but he’s a cardinal and the Pope’s the pope. Same Sex marriage is a thing that is happening with or without the Catholic Church.

No doubt. A lot of things happen with or without the Catholic Church: cohabitation, adultery, fornication, theft, greed. The fact that they are bad for society is what impels the Church to speak.

Again, your opinion. The Church just has to admit that it got this one wrong, apologize, and move on, or fade away in irrelevance. One cannot hold itself out as a bastion of virtue while oppressing minorities with hatred and bigotry.

These are very serious accusations and a huge strawman. I don’t believe you have any evidence that they are true.

In this case, the Pope agrees with the Cardinal. After all, he said this about the effort to establish gay ‘marriage’ in his own country
“Let’s not be naïve: this isn’t a simple political fight, it’s an attempt to destroy God’s plan.”

The Church will never fade away in irrelevance. Even if She seems to be beaten, She will arise stronger than ever. Count on it.

Could you be more specific about where the Church as gone wrong and which minorities the Church is oppressing?

This is what I’m hearing…

We were talking about the church’s opposition to gay marriage, and condemnation of homosexuality in general. Right?

Homosexual acts are condemned, yes. It’s not just the Church. If you look at the Red Cross, they don’t allow you to donate blood if you commit sodomy. I wonder why? They must be bigots, right?

Let’s start with fundamentals. What is the difference between fraternal brotherhood of two best friends, and two homosexuals who are ‘married’. What act differentiates the two?

Translation: The Church must kneel before western culture dogmas.

Reality: Confirming a cultural movement in its lie would actually be hatred. Inviting a culture to examine the truth is love.
