Evil only happens when physical life is taken?
Evil happens when direct harm is done to someone. I don’t see this happening between two consenting adults. In the case of adults and children the child cannot possibly give consent so yes there would be harm done.

Look folks, as I have stated before I am against gay marriage but I don’t think we need to focus so much time on this issue of gay sex between adults. At that point they must be free to make their own decisions. We can’t spend all our time keeping antisodomy laws on the books and fill up the prisons or hospitals. I do remember a case back in the 80s where a police officer went into a home and caught two consenting males and arrested them just for that alone. This is a sheer waste of judicial and authoritative time. There are an overwhelming number of gay and lesbian people who are otherwise prolife but we somehow forbid them to join the cause.

There IS direct harm when acts that are permissible ONLY between chaste married people of different sexes are performed in any other situation.

That is simply the way it is. God’s rules, not mine.

If you don’t accept those rules, you’re WAY out of agreement with the Church, and at the very least due some extensive work in purgatory.

But then,… hey,… me too,… but not for that reason. 🙂
…{snip}…
Prayin’ for 'ya, dude…! 🙂

Uh,… no,… God has one set of rules, which He applies to everyone. That’s kinda the reason behind the whole “One God” thing…!!

But,… there is the “invincible ignorance” thing, as well as the “by the grace of God ANYTHING is possible” loophole,… but how many people really haven’t heard about the rules that we’re talking about here?

…those with televisions, radios, or the internet,… to take a subset?

You seem to forget what “Catholic” means.

Who is left out of the “universal”…?

I choose the Catholic faith over any sexual lifestyle. But things could have turned out differently. And I refuse to have my sexuality labelled disordered since I am not practicing it.

That’s your judgement. If I am requested not to judge I ask others to refrain also.

That is your judgement. If I am asked to not make judgements, which I haven’t, then I request the same of everyone else.

So I guess everyone that has ever been in a relationship will suddenly be turned away on judgement day. Sorry it is a requirement for us Catholics but those who live outside the Church may very well be accepted into God’s loving arms despite who they have had sex with.
Wrong. It is a requirement for all people. There is no exception for non-Catholics to do whatever they please and still be saved.

Goodbye for now. I live by the rules but am not going to judge friends who do not. Otherwise I might have to inquire how many are practicing ABC and all the other stuff and get pretty lonely sitting in my room. I choose to be a little open in whom I call friends. I try to guide them away from the lifestyle but not with the religion aspect.

Calling it like it is not as the Secular Relativists would like it to be:
It’s good to see that the Vatican is getting more hard-lined about these sort of issues - we need a strong moral voice in this culture of death and the Holy See is the logical place to take the lead on this.

No one cares about your “sexuality”. We care about your “acts”.

If you don’t practice disordered acts (behaviors) then there’s no question about “judging” those acts, as they aren’t “practiced”.

If you do practice disordered acts, then it’s really only between you, your “partner(s)-in-crime”, those who know about your behavior, and God, but none of that has anything to do with the “disorderedness” of those acts.

They are simply disordered, as acts. Period.

No. That (the disorderedness of certain acts) is not my judgement, but the judgement of the Church.

The fact that you don’t apply the judgement of the Church to that which it should be applied says only that you don’t know what you’re doing in relation to “disordered acts”.

You can expect that I sin as you do (by not “judging”), but that expectation is ridiculous as that would be you scandalizing me, which would be yet another sin on your part.

I’m obligated to inform you that you are wrong, that you are sinning, and that you might want to think about those things for a while, then seek reconciliation.

Bye-bye…!

No one’s asking you to “judge” (condemn) your friends, but only to “judge” (inform them of God’s rules) them, in a thoroughly charitable way, such that they might, somehow, mysteriously, come to see their errors.

You probably DO do that. 🙂

That’s cool. Keep up the good work.

Is that the case were they called the cops on themselves in order to get arrested so they could take the case to court to have the law thrown out by the ACLU?

What is your source for this statement? Do you have a verifiable news article that actually documents gay bashing directly inspired by Catholic teaching? Please provide evidence for this absurd allegation.
There’s an awful lot of it in this very thread, directed entirely at a guy who’s on your side! I’ve never seen goofyjim say anything that contradicts the official Catholic line on the subject, yet he’s met with this sort of wanton cruelty and derision from the very people he goes to church with? The man’s a saint just for putting up with you all.

If this is how you treat your own, imagine what it looks like to those of us outside. You’re not winning anyone over.

He claimed immoral acts were not evil because a life was not taken. That is hardly a Catholic position.

Immorality isn’t necessarily the same thing as evil. It’s a fine distinction, sure, but it is one. To use a classic example, was eating pork up until the first century AD evil? One can’t really say that: it did no harm to anyone, not counting food poisoning, and there are no records of God smiting anyone over it. Was it immoral – ie, contradictory to Jewish moral teaching? Unquestionably.

Nope. The Church teaches certain actions are intrinscially evil. Fornication, hetero or homo, is one such act. It is evil. Done with full knowledge and consent ends one’s friendship with God.

Acts, yes, but not tendencies – and goofyjim is living with the tendencies and not performing any of the acts. Why’s everybody jumping on him?

Although he says that he’s against gay marriage and implies that he’s chaste, he seems to suggest that others who engage in homosexual acts shouldn’t be “judged” as doing anything wrong. If my analysis is correct, he seems to be talking out of both sides of his mouth. Goofyjim or others: please correct me if I’m wrong with my assertions here. I don’t feel as if people in this thread are self-righteously condemning him but instead offering some constructive fraternal correction - as Christians, we are called to do that as well!
