A Australian Federal Parliamentarian is going to introduce a Private Member’s Bill into the Australian Federal Parliament in early 2012 to redefine the meaning of marriage in the Marriage Act.

The governing party, the Australian Labor Party, is going to give its Parliamentarians a conscience vote. The Opposition, a Liberal/National coalition hasn’t made any announcements yet.

Labor is the Left wing/progressive party of Australian politics. The Liberals are the free enterprise, individual rights/responsibilities party of Australian politics. The Liberal’s leader, Tony Abbott, is a devout Catholic whose Catholicism often cops a ribbing in the media.

A Catholic Priest, who is also a Lawyer, Father Frank Brennan, says any change to the Marriage Act would probably be challenged in the High Court.

Read about it right here.

I’m praying for Australia, as always. May God bless the good, faithful Catholics and others in your country.

Glad I wasn’t eating dinner when I saw the picture, though.

ISometimes I find myself astounded at the political situation in our country - though maybe that’s just the nature of politics in general. Gillard seems to be so spineless and so heavily swayed by the Greens, and perhaps her backdown on this issue is just another case of manipulation.

I support kindness and love. But this involves neither. This is politics, and I don’t particularly like politics. There’s too much deceit and weakness.
Though I do wonder how many gay couples will actually marry if the Bill is passed.

May God be with our politicians.

I reckon shes just trying to divert attention away from the pitiful performance shes given over the past year.

distract people with any wedge issue big enough…

plus the more extreme left can join in…🤷

Hmm, need to dig out my Constitutional Law texts and figure out how, if possible, it might be challenged.

But it’s unlikely to pass anyway - can’t see Abbott allowing his side to vote according to their consciences.

I hope and pray that Australia does not give in to moral relativism and approve of “gay marriage”.

Me as well. 👍👍
Australia is already well down the path of accepting moral relativism. Gay ‘marriage’ is just one more step along the path.

Homosexuals, just like they have in the U.K and the United States, originally asked for what Australians call a “fair go”. In other words, they wanted to be accepted and not discriminated against. So, we now have a Federal Cabinet Minister, one Senator The Honourable Penny Wong who is an out and proud lesbian. If we step back in time just a little bit, we can read how Senator The Honourable Penny Wong and her ‘partner’ announced they were expecting a baby! Nothing like using the wonders of modern science to help you make a happy family. So, you see, Australia is a nice, happy, tolerant nation. We are so tolerant we even have special anti-discrimination laws in place to make sure no one can give people like Senator The Honourable Penny Wong a hard time.

Just to prove how tolerant we are, we even have another Senator who is openly homosexual. Senator Bob Brown, who isn’t honourable because he isn’t a Minister of the Crown. Well, Senator Bob Brown is Parliamentary Leader of The Greens. The Australian Greens are the really, really progressive party of Australian politics. Gay rights, gay marriage, and deep green environmental policies are their core principles. Interestingly, their support has been growing in the major cities these past few years. The closer you get to the urban centres, the higher their vote. Check out their web site and know what they have in store for us and they are linked into a world wide ‘green’ movement. Anyway, I digress. Bob, you see, lives openly with his boyfriend in a little house set amongst the gum tress, in Tasmania. He is also in favour of same sex marriage. Big time in favour of it.

Now the governing party, the Australian Labor Party only won power by making a deal with Bob Brown and his Greens. Julia Gillard is the Australian Prime Minister because the Australian LLabor Party elected her as their parliamentary leader. Well, Julia Gillard is the Honourable Prime Minister Julia Gillard and she lives with her live in boyfriend in The Lodge, which is the Prime Ministerial home, in Canberra. See how tolerant we Australians are?

Now a few things have happened which have made the Australian people feel a little conned. Firstly, despite running the pro-the Global Warming campaign, the Australian Labor Party nearly got tipped out of office and only clung onto power by making a deal with Senator Bob Brown. After clinching power, The Honourable prime Minister promised the Australian people there would be no carbon tax. you can read about it here. You can even watch a video and read her lips when she says 'There will be no carbon tax…". Well, guess what Julia’s government has just given the Australian people? yep. A bloody carbon tax! Of course, Senator Bob Brown was ecstatic.

The Honourable Prime Minister Julia Gillard also said before she won power, that marriage was between a man and a woman. End of story, or so we thought. next thing we hear, and the reson for this thread, is that an Australian Labor Party politician is to introduce a Private members Bill seeking to legalise same sex ‘marriage’. The Honourable Prime Minister has rolled over on her stance. Of course, Senator Bob Brown is ecstatic. so is the Honourable Senator penny Wong. You see her here giving the PM a big hug.

So there you have it.

How tolerant we are…

Still keeping up my prayers for all of our Australian allies.

December 8 is a Holy Day of Obligation in the US–the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin. I remembered you at Mass (a Solemn High Mass 1962 TLM).

God save Australia.

The thing is, such intense focus on this issue means that more important, urgent concerns such as Aboriginal rights and climare change are being more or less ignored. It’s unfortunate

Oh, really?

And, pray tell, what rights don’t Aborigines have?

As for ‘climate change’ being ignored, what rock have you been hiding under? Joolya has it covered already. Didn’t you know?

Of the three issues you mentioned, only one is a moral issue and considering how morality is the glue that holds a society together, of course it should be subject to intense focus.

As usual the socialist Labour government is being told what to do by the radical left-wing Greens.

As soon as Tony Abbott and the Liberal Party come into power, it will be for the better.
