I used the analogy of “cancer” as an antithesis relative to the naturally ordered state of human health and design.

Yes. I find there are many who have an inability to understand the abstract nature of analogies.

If we take this very basic analogy:

Christmas tree : ornament :: Earlobe : earring

we would be correct to judge a person who says, “How dare you say an earlobe is a Christmas tree! That’s disrespectful to human flesh!” as having an inability to think in the abstract.

I find that often occurs here on the CAFs. An analogy is proffered and people take exception as if to say that the analogs are synonymous. Nope. What is being proposed is that they are alike, AS ANALOGS ONLY, Where they are dissimilar, they are, well, dissimilar.

Throw all the words at it that you like. A simple ‘what would Jesus do?’ works for me every time and this isn’t it.

Did your massive intellectual brain skip over the part where I said that I was new, I consider myself a lay person? There was no hidden meaning in there, I can dumb it down even more. Why the hateful, disgusting comments? Jesus would not do this. I was not attacking anything or your belief.

So what would Jesus do?

Oh, I dunno.

He might call out the Samaritan woman at the well and tell her her divorces were wrong, and that her current husband was not her husband at all.

He might tell the adulteress that her sins are forgiven and to go AND SIN NO MORE.

He might tell people that he would rather they be with him or against him, and if they were lukewarm that he would vomit them from his mouth.

Oh that’s right… he did say those things!

Now, I will give a caveat. There are indeed some analogies that, even if true and analogical only, are offensive.

To wit: I have heard pro-aborts compare the fetus to a parasite.

That’s offensive. Even if they are not saying that a fetus* is* a parasite.
