Well, I know this might be a hard one (or not), but are homosexuals evil? I have herd that their actions are evil, but if you look it from a “normal” persons view, then you just would see 2 persons in love…so is it wrong or is it something else 🤷

You would probably have better luck with this question on the Moral Theology board. There have been countless threads on this subject.

Having Same Sex Attraction in and of itself does not make the person evil at all, and that by itself does not mean the person is sinning. What causes evil to enter the picture is when that person acts on that attraction and engages in relations with someone of the same sex.
This is similar to the heterosexual person that engages in pre-marital sexual relations. That act is evil and sinful as well.

Never mistake the Catholic view about gays. We Catholics believe that a gay person is no better or no worse than each and everyone of us. We love them as God’s special creation just like all us human beings. How each of us live our lives is to be judged by God and God alone and all we can do is try our best to be faithful to His way. We all sin and in varying degrees, but we must not just go “oh well” and give up on striving for God’s way which will give us more happiness here and in the hereafter. I have a son who is gay and to this day he has not really connected with Our Lord and His Church and he continues to struggle. I pray for him and all those who do not know how to deal with their sexual issues and I pray for the influences that lead them away from peace through knowing, loving, and serving God and His Church. Amen

Here is what the Catechism has to say on the subject, all three sections of it…

Chastity and homosexuality

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,140 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."141 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

So, homosexuals are not bad or evil as such. They should not be discriminated against in any way. HOWEVER, they are called to a life of chastity, Homosexual “marriage” violates this concept of chastity.😦

Yes, yes; I know, I know. It hasn’t been easy for many heterosexuals to live a life of chastity. But that is the call of the Catholic Church for all singles, and that includes all homosexuals. A life of chastity. :o

Homosexuals are as capable of love as anyone else - they are not aliens with two heads. 🙂

We need to make a distinction - love, as love, is not wrong; water is equally fine, as water. However, water tainted by cyanide, though watery, is not for drinking; & in sofar as love is expressed in wrong ways - by adultery, or by homosexual activity, for instance - it has gone wrong, it has ceased to be healthy. People who engage in
homosexual activity (people are not rightly described if they are described by a sin they commit; all persons always remain persons, whatever their sins) are no better or worse than any one else; all of us sin, in all sorts of ways; & that is one way of so doing.

BTW, a lot of them are Catholic 🙂 - contrary to what seems to be a widespread belief, homosexuality does not put one outside the Church. That it is in principle a mortal sin does not have thks effect either, because mortal sin does not in itself put outside the Church. Some sins do, & those particular sins are mortal - but that does not mean that all mortal sins have the effect of destroying communion with the Church.

Two homosexuals are not in love. They may think they are, but that is impossible.

I knew a man who was a Christian and pretty serious about it. He was a Protestant. He was married and in an adulterous relationship. He told me he knew what he was doing wrong, but could not help himself. He could not stop seeing the woman who he was having an affair with. She was also married. Jesus says whoever sins is a slave to sin. Slaves have no power to set themselves free. Sometimes slaves do not want to be free. If they do it takes a being who is stronger than their slave master to set them free. So homosexuals may say there is nothing I can do to stop being the wasy I am. They are slaves. They have fallen into this form of slavery. They also do not understand themselves. None of do, but they can not know why they are the way they are. So they say it is not their fault.

Somewhere in all of us in our personal history we chose to fall into sin. We embraced it. Then we end up trapped there.

Homosexuals may struggle with their sin, but give up in failure. The alternative is accepting the way they are. Why fight what you can not beat? But Jesus does have the power to free us of whatever our sins are. If we keep asking him to save us from our sins He will.

Homosexual acts are disordered. That doesn’t mean the homosexual as a person is evil. In fact, with abstinence, he can live a holy life.

I think homosexuality was a state of being God allowed in order to temper population growth (like war, disease, and infertility). Just my opinion, but as it’s evident in other animal kingdoms, I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch.

You have this backwards. The homosexual person is disordered. The act is sinful, or evil.

If this be so, then it follows any sexually disordered act (and this is not only homosexual acts…some heterosexual acts as well) means that the person is disordered. Truth is we are all disordered since we are all sinners.👍

I have known some homosexual guys who were more about Gospel living and attitudes than those that claim to live the Gospel. Gold is wherever it is found.

Blessings and regards…Barb:)

Jesus made it very clear that we are neither to judge nor condemn others but to be compassionate and love one another.

It is not our place to judge or condemn homosexual people.

Are we not judging a homosexual(gay) person when we say that their orientation(sexually) is disordered? Most of our current medical community believes that the “disordered” view is not accurate. What are the specific things that the Church does to reach out to gays and other people of sexual confusion. I would say that Reconciliation, Holy Communion, prayer, and the rosary are to name a few, but what are some specific community based programs that congregations have in place for teaching and accepting gay and lesbians as integral members of the Faith?

“Jesus and Mary, I love you, save souls”! Jim

Yes, that would constitute judging. We shouldn’t judge according to Jesus.

I personally find tremendous inspiration from this teaching; only God may judge. It allows us to concentrate on living the gospel as best we can and trying to make ourselves like Jesus.

I thought the ‘‘judgement’’ part was about stoning the woman to death, everybody knew what she had done was wrong. Jesus didn’t tell the woman to go on with her life as she pleased. He commanded her ‘‘Go, but do not sin again’’.

That’s not judging, it is simply defining. There is a natural order and inclinations toward actions against the natural order are, by definition, disordered.

In the US, the ministry you are looking for is Courage.courage

Matthew 7:1-2 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged”

I’m happy to follow this; it allows me to focus on my many own imperfections without worrying about what other peoples imperfections might be.

Also, the two greatest commandments are to love God totally with heart, mind & soul and to love one’s neighbour as oneself. I fail so often in following these I couldn’t be the first to throw a stone.

Well said!👍

It’s easy for people to make judgements and decisions about other folks when they have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. I spent ten years in prayer and went through several spiritual directors and even did some “reparative therapy” trying to heal myself of this “disorder”. I don’t know how many times I went before the Blessed Sacrament and just gave the feelings and temptations to Our Lord and prayed he would take them away. He never did. I would try and comfort myself with the words Jesus spoke to St. Paul, that “my grace is sufficient for thee”. But those years were the most depressing years of my life. I got to a point were I couldn’t take it anymore and I just gave up on my faith. I felt like I had tried for so long to live up to something that I just wasn’t capable of doing. No amount of prayer, no amount of fasting, no matter how many retreats I went on, nothing seemed to help. I just said “forget it” and went the way of the world. But of course one can not find true happiness in the world either. I came to a point a few years ago when I knew I had to return to some sort of journey of faith and spirituality. I didn’t think I could go back to practicing as a Catholic so I looked to several other faiths and churches to try and find what I needed. But eventually Our Lord brought me back to the one thing I really needed and that is the Eucharist. The Eucharist and Our Lady. Now, praise God, I regularly go to Mass and pray the rosary and spend time with Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, much like I use to do. But I do not come before Our Lord feeling like i’m some sort of disgusting pervert. I am who I am and I love who I love and knowing that that gift of who I am and the gift of being able to love another person is truly a gift of God and not some disorder as too many people would have me believe, has made all the difference in my life and in my relationship with God. I know that before my “reversion” I had a wonderful relationship with God, but it was based on this false idea that i was disgusting and worthless and that I had to go to Him in fear, always admitting my worthlessness. Now I go to Him as a Father and as the Lover of my soul and living in that union with Him, that life of grace, has made me very very happy. God bless!

Jesus made it very clear that we are neither to judge nor condemn others but to be compassionate and love one another.

It is not our place to judge or condemn homosexual people.
It is quite true that we cannot and should not judge PEOPLE. But we can judge acts.

For example, we can condem the act of burning a cross on a black person’s lawn, or we can condem the act of tossing Jews into gas chambers.

It would be folly to claim that Christs command to not judge is a command not to speak out against evil acts.

It is also folly to claim that a person is defined by their actions. An action is NOT a person and a person is an actOR not an actION.

So judging an act is clearly not judging a person. That is why the Church rightly condemns homosexual ACTS, but loves the person.

In fact, Catholics love the person so much they we actively encourage them to forebear from performing evil acts and choosing to live holy lives.
