Again, you’re citing the rare, broken exception as an excuse. Can you show what the purpose of these laws is, if not to provide financial stability to a couple which - by their very biological nature - are almost guaranteed to produce children? As far as adoption, most state agencies have a waiting list. Not for the children, but for the couples wishing to adopt. Do you really believe that it is in the child’s best interest to be deprived of either a mother or father simply because two men or two women have decided that they will throw off the shackles of biology and raise a child because they want to?
I don’t know the specific language used in the law, but my guess is that providing the financial stability to family units is the reason. I don’t think that they require it to be for the production of children, if they did, the law would reflect that in it’s language. Now as for the adoption issue, I do believe that the ideal situation is for the mother and father to raise the child, and I would never insiminate to have a child while there are plenty of children in need of loving households. But, I do not think that couples don’t have the right to do that. I also do not think that even you can argue that living in the fostercare system is better than being adopted by a loving gay couple.
In zoos - highly artificial environments where the animals are placed under stresses seen nowhere in the wild. For all of the wild instances of “gay animals”, what is apparently never taken into consideration are possible alternative explanations which don’t involve anthropomorphism.
These behaviors have been seen in the wild. My boyfriend is a marine biologist, who told me just last week about a pod of dolphins they are studying (in the wild) that has a same-sex pair that exhibits this exact behavior.
Would you support the veteran baker or not?
That would require some more thought on my part… I just don’t have the energy right now lol… but I can say that if I was the veteran baker, I would make my objections known, along with making my belief that the customer deserves the right to free speech, and then I would make the cake. It would probably turn out horribly though because I don’t have any skill with baking… literally NO SKILL!

Okay, then I’ll put it a different way: The restrictions in the case of same-sex marriage bans are unreasonable, and are based purely on religious tenets.
There is no same-sex marriage ban. Same sex ‘marriage’ has simply never existed at all. And are you telling me that every single society in the history of mankind was purely religious?
I don’t have time, I’ll just trust Justice Kennedy… Supreme Court Justice seems like a pretty reputable title. But, if you find conclusive evidence that the Justice is lying, please share!
Considering what supreme court justices find in the ‘penumbra’ of the Constitution, considering decisions like Dred Scott…no, I wouldn’t take his word. As I said, I’ve been to a site that a supporter of redefining marriage claimed listed those 1100 rights, and there was no such list.
It doesn’t matter that they object to the acts… The acts come secondary to the trait. Restricting the act is unconstitutional in the US (Lawrence v Texas). Teaching children the reality that same-sex couples exist seems like common sense to me, just like teaching them that different religions exist. It fosters an ability for them to interact with fellow members of society when they get into the workforce. It is not the same as teaching them that they must condone it.
Yes, we can and do restrict actions in this country. We do it all the time.

If you would like to teach your children that same-sex couples exist, please do. At question here in this thread, in the Russian law, is that YOU do not have the right to teach MY children things of a sexual or moral nature.

They can only interact with others in the workforce if they’re taught at age, what–3, 4, 5?–about homosexuality? I thought gays didn’t define themselves by their sex lives? So in theory if my kid becomes a lawyer, he ought to be talking with his colleagues about law, not their sex lives, right?

Or perhaps consider that kind and good people will be kind and good to others whether they’ve been taught about homosexuality or not.

You may not think you’re forcing people to ‘condone’ it, but by talking about it constantly and foisting it on children, you and others who do so are trying to normalize it.
Did you ever think that this could be a symptom of the religious/societal intollerance that has been the norm for decades?
Obviously that’s one explanation. And obviously it’s at least as possible that, given the frequent occurrence of abuse in the background of many with SSA, that maybe there is a correlation between depression and SSA, and/or other factors which lead to both the depression and the SSA–and which no amount of society re-programming is going to solve.
There is no more damage to the anal sphincter than there is to the vaginal wall, when a reasonable amount of precaution is taken. The muscles maintain tone, and are often strengthened.
Cough, yeah. Okay. I know plenty of people who work in the medical field who report otherwise based on firsthand experience.
Well, we will just have to disagree, because to me it sounds foolish to keep insisting that making a cake is participating in a ceremony. I constantly prescribe plan b drugs, and treat STIs. That doesn’t mean that I condone the behavior of the patients, but I’m still obligated to provide them with care.
There are many people objecting to being forced to prescribe drugs that take the life of a child. I hope they succeed. It is also taking part in something unethical. As to STIs, treating an illness does not mean you condone what caused that illness, and it’s healing a person rather than dishing out death, as does ‘plan B.’
That’s another area we are going to have to disagree on. I know as a matter of faith that God loves me, and that he created me the way he intended, and that he intended me to love the way he made me.
I agree. God loves you. God loves me. God loves everyone. That doesn’t mean He loves every action. It doesn’t mean that he loves adultery because those two people are ‘loving the way he intended them to love.’

There is nothing sinful about being Black or Catholic.

Instead, imagine being asked to bake a cake or photograph for the celebration of a newly initiated gangster’s first kill, or the successful completion of a multi-million dollar bank robbery.
I don’t believe that there’s anything sinful about being gay and getting married. Sin is defined by the different religions for their followers. We don’t get to make sin illegal just because we think it’s a sin.

Now, if the gangster or robber came into my bakery, I would tell them I was making the cake, then have the police meet them when they came to pick it up. It is pretty insulting to compare my relationship with bank robbers and murderers though.

Sin is sin.

 Homosexuality is definetly a sin. smh

This has been asserted here on CAF a dozen or more times, but nobody ever produced any persuasive evidence of it. Perhaps you will, and we can look at it.

Exclusive, long term homosexuality by preference is a human disorder only.
Intollerance is a human disorder only, homosexuality is actually quite prevalent in the wild.

Prevailent in the wild ? Blah… keep it there. The lefts intolerence of the Church is a crime in and of itsself IMO.

Homosexuality is a preverse disorder. And does nothing to further mankind. But it is enough that it is an affront to God. Several passages in the Bible point to this.

Yes it is… read the Bible… God forbids it. So yes it is a sin.
I have read the Bible, and while spiritually edifying, it was still written by human beings. It also forbids eating shellfish and wearing clothing made of two different kinds of fabric.

Christ gave us the Great Commandment, and to break those is the true sin. If a worldly law does not foster love for one’s neighbor, then that law is sinful.

Anthopomorphization of behavior combined with a political agenda, with multiple instances of “the wild” being an artificial preserve of some kind. If we want to go with the standard of behavior seen in the wild is automatically a moral and societal good, then I should be out eating babies and raping women.

No, it isn’t. Periods or occasions of homosexual behavior are observed in some animals, and scientists who want to bet their research into the popular news claim it as “evidence” by projecting human motives onto these animals.

Love does not mean having sex with someone. I love my Mom… I do not have sex with her etc. You can love your follow man w/o having sex with him.

The Bible was written by God thru man. God said homosexuality is a sin… therefore it is a sin.

Those with ssa should at the very least live a chaste lifestyle so as to not offend God.

MOSCOW (AP) — Pole vault great Yelena Isinbayeva condemned homosexuality Thursday after criticizing fellow competitors who painted their fingernails in rainbow colors to support gays and lesbians in the face of a new anti-gay law in Russia.

The Russian, who won her third world title Tuesday in front of a boisterous home crowd, came out in favor of the law which has drawn sharp criticism and led Western activists to call for a boycott of next year’s Winter Olympics in the Russian resort of Sochi.

Those passages which many claim deals with homosexuality does not. Those passages do not deal with our modern understanding of human sexuality in any way. Those passages deal with ritual uncleaness and or cultural prohibitions based on their understanding of human reproduction. Except for a reference in Romans, lesbianism is not addressed at all…because women were considered simply recepticals of the male seed which grew within them as a seed grows in fetile ground.

Genetics and DNA were not even on the “radar” 3500-2000 years ago when those “clobber passages” were written.

Modern understanding of human sexuality was not even considered. Tribal, magical, mythical understandings of human reproduction were “fact”. The male “seed” contained all there was to have a child…women were nothing but incubators of the “male seed”…they contributed nothing to the genetic makeup of the child they bore…simply because they had no knowlege of human reproductive physiology, DNA, genetics etc.

It was a “sin”, read the story of Onan, to spill one’s seed…why? Not because masterbation was necessarily wrong, but because everything that was “human” was contained in the “male seed”…concepts of the “female egg/ovum” were unknown.

Two men together were ritually unclean…“abomination” in Leviticus passages does not imply “sin” but “ritually unclean”…human bodily fluids from the reproductive organs made one “ritually unclean” for religious service.

Women were seen as “property”…vessels only to be “sold” by the father to the husband for the “bride price” in order to carry on the family line of the son…women were commodities…to be used and discarded if for some reason she could not bare a son for her husband…this continued up thru the middle ages with the European kings who needed a son to carry on the royal line…little did the king know if his wife bore him no sons, it was his “fault”…not hers as he only had “female swimmers”…something unknown until modern times.

Ritual sexual practices was not unknown in ancient times…‘ritual sex magic’…again…modern understanding of the mechanics and physiology of human sexuality was unknown…in fact their understanding of reproduction was incorrect…their science was incorrect…their cosmology was incorrect…their geography of the nature of the Earth and cosmos was lacking and incorrect.

The earth did not float on a great sea…the earth did not have 4 corners…the earth was not the center of the universe…the earth was not the center of the solar system…the earth was not covered by a canopy that allowed the lesser lights shine thru to light the evening…nor did the sun move thru the sky to be halted by a miracle in order for a war victory for Joshua to occur.

Snakes and donkeys did not speak, sickness was not caused by “sin”, angels did not mate with humans, people did not get turned into salt, nor did post-menopause women of some advanced ages give birth.

The diversity of creation is MORE…MUCH MORE…than the ancients even thought possible.

Human sexuality is much more complex than their minds could comprehend.

The Bible DOES NOT ADDRESS the modern understanding of human sexualtiy…history may not have had same sex marriages…but since the earliest times it had other “institutions” we do not share today.

Cultures outside the Judeo-Christian influence DID honor those who today would be called “gay”. Greek history had their Gods and Goddesses in same sex relationships. Many European cultures had thier Gods and Goddesses also take same sex partners. Some cultures counted it an honor for it’s bravest warriors to choose a same sex partner for one night…it would have been and insult to refuse the warriors advances as it was counted an honor.

Our understanding of marriage has changed thoughout the centuries and millenia…how we implement “marriage” in various society has changed…what constitues “marriage” has also changed.

For the ancient Hebrews…the “husband” paid the “bride price” and on an appointed day arrived at the home of his “bride” and claimed her…took her to his house…slept with her and…they were married. Nothing overtly religious occured…just a bunch of parties followed.

That some religious groups have a more modern understanding of biblical teachings rooted and grounded in culture, time and history tends to broaden the understanding of human sexuality…they are not denying what the Bible says…they are understanding it differently due to historical understandings.

Precisely. Human biology tells us the truth. Distorting that truth and trying to distort society, as the Russians understand clearly, is not the right thing to do.

Peace,
Ed

And yet, because of modern “cleverness”, we all live a much better life…much better educated…much much healthier…most of us well fed and healthy…our lives are not centered around what we will eat today…or if we’ll eat at all.

Most of us over 35-40 would be dead if not for our “cleverness”.

We are much much more “clever” than our “antecedents”…and if you’re reading this post…just by being able to read it on your screen…be it PC, phone or other device shows it to be so.

It is “laughable” indeed to long for the “good old days”…when women were chattle, children dispensible, anyone not in one’s tribe was “the other”, those outside one’s religious tradition “evil” and medicine was looked upon as suspect of “satan’s influence”.

I’m ok with our “cleverness”…I’d not be here if not for the “cleverness” of modern medicine…I’d have died decades ago.

There is a considerable difference between “religious discipline” and “moral precept.”

When the Apostles took over the Church, they abrogated the religious disciplines of Judaism, but they did not throw out its moral code.
